Women are taught to compete with other women. Taught that there isn’t enough to go around, we must fight with each other for the scraps we’re thrown. I believe there IS enough to go around & that this type of stamping on others to get to your desired goals can get in the bin. I’m surrounded by the most incredible women & girls who I’m both inspired & motivated by every day. In my work I champion, the belief that being your weirdest self is your quickest route to happiness & success, with @iamweirdaf I work specifically with Women in business who want to get seen, get paid & do it in their own weird way. Being your weirdest self is about leaning into who you are, not copying other people, stealing their ideas or pretending to be them because when we try to be somebody else we’ll never win. Over the last year I’ve watched numerous people stealing both mine & other peoples ideas almost verbatim & whilst we could see this as the sincerest form of flattery, it depends on the circumstance. When it is coming from people that have a bigger following & more clout, it’s unfair & it’s frustrating. Also watching these people talk about integrity & supporting others sticks in your throat. To those that do this, I see you & other people see you & even when they don’t eventually the mask has to slip because it isn’t who you are. It makes me more determined than ever to support genuine people, elevate the talented founders who are struggling to get seen (whilst grifters take their ideas & market it to their large audiences) *not just one person by the way & if you’re clutching your pearls you may want to ask yourself why. Is Love really Blind? Yesterday I got to do some filming with Love is Blind star Nicole and the wonderful Emmy from Get Dopa. We talked about connection, being your ‘weirdest’ self, unmasking (and how the hell we do that!) as well as our experience of being ADHD in a world that doesn’t cater to that. Nicole is still married to the partner she met on Love is Blind and the sheer compassion, love and acceptance they have of each other was clear in everything she shared. Having spaces to be your truest self is imperative in your romantic partnerships, friendships and in your working life. Nicole shared that her unmasking experience always started with feeling safe enough to do that and this is something I advocate heavily for in my spaces. Get into space where people get you and you feel safe and you will thrive! I also teach entrepreneurs to do the same for themselves within my 6 month programme the WEIRD AF Mastermind @iamweirdaf So many entrepreneurs still try to run their businesses like the ‘gurus’ they follow without the context of their actual lives. Weird isn’t about performative quirkiness it’s about embracing all that you are. Your authentic, messy, real self. One size fits all cannot and does not work. *Let us first start by caveating this post by saying we do not condone the behaviour on this show, nor are we making light of it in any way (for those that missed this viral moment it’s in reference to a new documentary on Netflix about America’s next top model). However what we will say is that the sheer audacity of Tyra Banks during this documentary had us quite aghast. In the Weird AF camp we are all about audacity, confidence, setting boundaries and being bold as f*ckity f*ck in what you do- so there is a level of appeal to seeing somebody standing in their power (even when we disagree). What can we learn from this audacity in our businesses this week? 🪩Plucky over Permission -Tyra didn’t wait for authority to be handed to her, she created it. At a time when models weren’t supposed to produce their own stuff, and lead empires, she did. ✏️Lesson: the world will not clear space for the polite it clears space for conviction, clarity and relentless self belief. 🪩Own your WEIRD & make your brand unmistakable. Love her or loathe her the brand was unacceptable. We bought in To The big personality, dramatic leadership, the empowerment, the unapologetic ambition and even the catchphrases- ‘smize’ anyone? ✏️Lesson: if people can’t describe you, they can’t buy from you- something we talk about great deal inside the Weird AF mastermind 🪩Delusional goals are often just early vision. Starting a Global modelling empire from scratch? On paper that’s delusional, in reality the vision was executed. Every big brand looked ridiculous at the beginning & that’s why sometimes we have to believe before the evidence even exists. We have to believe in the face of opposition & other peoples fears. ✏️Lesson: confidence isn’t always pure certainty in business. It’s the willingness to move without proof and give things a goal. The world moves out of your way when you move with audacious confidence.
