Tw: sexual assault, abuse, and hate speech in the IAMSAC workplace
First, I want to apologize. I did not approach this right. I read the comments and it helped me understand how I could better communicate the IAMSAC culture—one of rape, sexual harassment, abuse, misogyny, & hate speech. All forms of these heinous behaviors happened on multiple occasions against multiple people inside the IAMSAC workplace. The leadership of IAMSAC creates and sustains power through abuse, isolation, and silence. We are conditioned to believe this abuse is necessary to achieve the mission. Yet, IAMSAC has never worked towards its mission.
Stevante raped a female volunteer while doing work for IAMSAC. This is one of at least two instances of rape that Stevante has committed. (Both gave me consent to share their experience.)
Stevante, on multiple occasions, cornered a female volunteer and forced a running water hose in her face to degrade her while setting up for an IAMSAC event. (She gave me consent to share her experience.)
Stevante frequently addressed volunteers as “bitches,” “a Jewish bitch,” “worthless,” “a fat bitch,” “faggot” publicly and while in the shared IAMSAC workplace rented at WeWork. Stevante consistently spoke degradingly about trans folks, women, and so many other demographics while in the shared IAMSAC workplace rented at WeWork.
These are just a few of the many instances. If you don’t believe me ask for the footage.
The reason I am telling you all this is because this behavior is unacceptable and prevents the IAMSAC mission from being achieved. This toxic work environment is not the change that the volunteers of IAMSAC have committed to and it’s not what the donors have consented to. It’s not fair to Sacramento, a place where so much change is needed, to blindly invest in an organization that is not committed to the mission of equity. Passion without direction AND ACCOUNTABILITY is chaos.
