The Silver Room Block Party is coming back with a new location. Founder Eric Williams joined us in studio to talk about the theme, prices and why he ultimately decided to bring the event back.
It started in Wicker Park and then became a staple event in Hyde Park on 53rd street. Eric said it’s time for a change and he needs the community’s help to make it a success.
The event is July 18th at the Salt Shed. Tickets start at $95 @thesilverroom@saltshedchicago

Almost every day for the past two years I've been asked about the block party and its possible return. Well im excited to announce it's happening July 18th at the Salt Shed. Many of you have seen tickets priced at $99 which will be the price starting Monday, but... early bird tickets starting tomorrow at noon are only $79. That discounted price will only be available until noon on Monday the 20th. The line up will be announced in mid May.. thank you all again for all the of the support over the years!
I'm sure many you have the news that we're bringing back the Silver Room Block Party! Saturday July 18th. After two years of being asked about it almost every day I felt it was time. The past few years have been challenging for many of us and that's a major reason why I felt it was necessary. Music, art, culture has always brought us a sense of healing and community us needed in times like these. I know the block party has been something that people look forward to every year. Meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones. Dancing, laughing escaping.. This year we will be taking over the Salt Shed with over 40 performers, indoor/outdoors stages and a who lot of other activations. It's going to be an incredible time. Because we are not doing the party in public space and now will be in a venue, tickets will be limited so please don't wait. They go on sale Friday April 17th at noon at silveroomblockparty.com

It was an honor (and surprise) when I was contacted by the Obama Foundation a few weeks ago and told the President wanted to speak with me. He acknowledged the positive impact the Silver Room has had on the Hyde Park community and greater South Side as a whole and wanted send a personal thank you. We also talked in length about small businesses and how the Obama Presidential Center can play a role in supporting entrepreneurs on the South Side. I'd like to thank President Obama and The Obama Foundation for their commitment in seeking allies and partners to insure the Obama Presidential Center will have a positive impact in our community.

Recently found this old photo of me (rocking the short fro in the background), my grandmother, my uncle Ronnie Boykins and Sun Ra. I must have been 10 or 11 in this pic. My uncle played bass for him for about 10 years so he would stop by the house often. I really didn't know who he was at the time but I do remember him being very nice and respectful to my grandmother and that's all that mattered.
