A social document of when SMITH first went ALI. 20 March - 2 April L'ITALIANA IN ALGERI by GIOACCHINO ROSSINI @deutscheoperberlin , has a gobsmacker of a rotating stage whose centerpiece is a boxing ring, where some of the thrilling action takes place. 3 of the 4 walls have other settings they introduce, or hint at... One is a bar, and the decor alone makes you wish you were a patron. Through an open door or the window of each wall, the audience can glimpse details of the boxing ring. In one scene, we have 2 fighters practicing with such grace & poise, one can't help but smile, as the singers in the foreground do their thang! PRINCE'S "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WORLD" is such a joy to rollerskate to!! P!NK'S "M!SSUNDAZTOOD" is a close second. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SOUL, THIS WOMAN IS!! To celebrate the launch of @snluk I’m sharing a part of my Writer’s Audition because I believe TRACEY ELLIS ROSS, to be one of the most remarkable screen presence, ever! She handles comedy and drama roles so bloody well, she just had to be my 1st choice for a dream SNL host! CHIWETEL EJIOFOR is not far behind. What a mensch. I urge you all to watch this fresh old dog of a show because I suspect it may just grow and grow to reshape some of the political conversations of our time. The opening had PM STARMER, as played by GEORGE FOURACRES, complaining about the special relationship with the US. Guess what the actual US Commander-in-Chief did, he pounced on it. The Writers could talk directly to him! F****ck. To that end, I was gonna try to sneak in a compelling case for mercy, fairness and a Fear of God through the prism of comedy, had I been chosen. Plus goofy, dumbsh*t too. Of course. I’m a silly billy too. I hope you might find things you like in this monologue. This Friday @galerielinger I will be sharing THE SWAN & PEACOCK short story with illustrations from @hyperkitsch and a soundtrack to boot! We start at 7.30 PM! It’s part of CABARET LINGER, a new monthly series from the gallery with my 5 books for sale!! Picture this… you’re invited to experience 3 different stories from collaborations far and wide, over the course of an evening. No cover charge. If you like the work, you can take it home!! Bring some money!! I will be reading from one of my favourite imaginative feats… a story about two birds that would do anything to not end up together!!! They would rather stay enemies, than run the risk of being lovers! Find out how this came to be… in my film-noir tale of birds with big guns, in collaboration with @hyperkitsch !! Yes, in case it is unclear, my reading-performance will feature projections from the story! Look how beautiful they are!! Folks, don’t let these events pass you by cause you think they will repeat. Your attendance is the reason we put on this show. To bring you all together, to sample other realities so you may find a way through the fog in yours. In Other News: Wars suck. They will never stop sucking. Whatever the reason. Especially when diplomacy is just waiting in the wings. I hope there’s an end in sight. May the mercy of God hold sway in the hearts of those who make these big decisions. Lastly, my specialty is entertaining you folks. I can’t tell people in power what to do, but I can try to appeal to their better Angels with stories like The Swan & The Peacock. I understand their struggle. I chose to be a writer than a politician cause I love power too. I get it. I use my power to play & grow with others. If you know someone my work can help, share it and tell them, I wish the best for them in their endeavour to turn a new leaf. We can only try our best. When the atmosphere thickens. When language stiffens and politics becomes theatrical. That is when cabaret appears. Dada discovered it during the war: its absurd absorbed the nullity of the moment and turned it into a new form. We’ve been shown a backstage exit from that overblown death-age. Cabaret Linger revisits that gesture, but inside a gallery.
