📋Trip Report: OPUS Hut If you’re anything like us, you’ve had a busy Spring out skiing…that’s why we’re only now posting about our epic trip out to OPUS this past April! After a foot of fresh ❄️ fell across the peaks of the San Juans, we were treated to blue skies, mild temps, and minimal wind. The days were long, avalanche danger was Low at all elevations (!), and North faces held cold, cold powder – what more can you ask for?! Well – maybe some aprés beverages. Beverages that didn’t have to come up in your pack…at 11.7k’…looking out over the basin you just drew lines on all day 😎 Huge thanks to the hut keepers up at OPUS that keep visitors fed, watered, and stoked! In-depth trip report to follow on !

📋Trip Report: Fortune Peak Huts Mid-January in Washington featured an unusually long period of high pressure. With a couple weeks of dry & sunny weather, you could say the ski conditions were geared toward the optimists out there. Even though booking a trip in advance can feel like a gamble at times, you can hedge your bets with a solid crew 🕺🏻, the right mindset 🥳, and some sunny winter access to the alpine 😎 But, don’t get us wrong – we’re really glad the faucet turned back on ☃️

Are you in favor of expanded hut access across North America? While arguments both ‘for’ and ‘against’ this specific proposal have merit, we should expect a decision this summer on four new huts in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest area. Tell us a bit more about what drives your opinion on expanded hut access in the comments👇🏼

📋Trip Report: Sisters Cabin Springtime hut trips in Colorado tend to lead with festive energy. Add 2 milestone birthdays and almost 60° temps at 12,000’, and the focus lands more on wigs and goofing around than objective-based skiing. Even when the skiing is marginal, you can still enjoy long walks 📈, gourmet meals 🤌🏼, sauna sessions 😶‍🌫️, and more cry-laughs than you could ever imagine 😂

📋 Trip Report: Fortune Peak Huts Springtime in the Upper Teanaway is all-time! The end of March had brought a big warmup 🥵, but it made for optimal conditions to stretch our legs and explore nearby zones around Koppen Mountain, Longs Pass, Eldorado Pass, and the southern reaches of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Long sunny days, cold plunges, and a sauna made for 5 days well-spent. ‼️24/25 reservations @fortunepeakhuts are up for booking! Read more about the huts at huttripper.com and consider booking a trip for next season 🤙🏼

📋 Trip Report: McCully Camp The Wallowas are a gem of Eastern Oregon, and the town of Joseph isn’t necessarily a place you’d pass through unless it was your destination. With 40+ years in operation, McCully Camp might show its age; but, being located within the Eagle Cap Wilderness – the terrain is the real reason you show up. Oh, and the chance to meet CB if you’re lucky 👀 Read more about McCully Camp on huttripper.com, and be sure to check out the other huts on offer from Wallowa Alpine Huts!

📋 Trip Report: Woody Creek Cabin We’re still frothing over a stellar week at the Woody Creek Cabin! Cooke City is known for its wealth of sled-accessed terrain, but it’s also an epic place to stretch your legs! @beartoothpowderguides operates two huts with both unguided and guided trips on offer, and there was no shortage of great turns despite a below-average snowpack 😎 Read more about the Woody Creek Cabin and the Mt. Zimmer Yurt on huttripper.com! And get to booking with @beartoothpowderguides – some spots are still available this season 👀❗️

That feeling when the clouds part and you can fully take in the terrain around the hut 🤩 There’s no substitute for being on the ground, but exploring terrain before you arrive builds a baseline familiarity with your home away from home. Each hut’s detail page on Hut Tripper includes a @caltopo embed – great for a quick look at available terrain and for starting a shared map with your crew.

Not all huts have the luxury of being permanent structures. In the case of our friends at @fortunepeakhuts – it takes a community of volunteers and work party days to get camp set up & taken down each season 💪 But, with access to the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, the impressive alpine of the Upper Teanaway Valley, and a cedar barrel sauna…we think it’s well worth the effort! ⚠️ Spots still available for 23/24! By the bed, full hut bookings, and guided skills & avalanche programming. Head to the link in bio and get to booking!
