Four beautiful mermaids are here to give you a message for our #mermay art challenge! Four prompts and moodboards to serve as inspiration to create mermaid artworks in May 🪸
WEEK 1 (1 - 8 ) ~ 🗝️ The Collector:

WEEK 4 (25 - 31) ~ 💫 The Astral:
“Open your mind. When you allow yourself to dream bigger, the universe begins to expand before you.”
We’ve created these four prompts and moodboards for this challenge based on those messages so we can all make our own Oracle deck. This is a continuation of our Faebruary Oracle challenge and we are planning to host more Oracle based challenges in the future to expand on this deck 🔮

What drives explorers to travel so far from home? It’s not the desire to see what they already know, but the curiosity for what feels mysterious.
My mermaid does not explore the sea, she explores the land. Lost in a small Venetian canal, she unexpectedly crosses paths with a curious little cat. 🐈⬛

🗝️✨ I finally managed to finish my Collector! 🧜🏻♀️🍴
I honestly struggled a lot with inspiration for this one, and I’m still trying to figure out whether I just don’t like drawing mermaids that much or if I’m simply going through a bit of an art block !😭
One day, my mermaid found a trunk at the bottom of the sea. 🧜🏻♀️It belonged to a woman who had lost her luggage during a shipwreck many years before. Inside there were clothes, jewels, little mirrors, perfume bottles and all sorts of strange objects. She became fascinated by those things that made her look so elegant and sophisticated!!💅🏻👠👛💍
Since then, she began collecting every treasure the ocean carried to her, preserving them in her secret underwater sanctuary💖

#MermaidJarChallenge Magnolia + Seafoam ✨
They trapped the wrong mermaid! 🧜🏻♀️ Sandy, the leader of the Magnolia mermaids’ gang, was captured and sealed inside a jar of seafoam by her arch-rival, Rina. Jealous of Sandy’s luscious purple hair and her irresistibly curvy tail, Rina thought she could finally get rid of her and steal her boyfriend 🧜🏽♂️ But Sandy is not the kind of girl you can keep locked away for long 😈 That jar is about to shatter… and revenge is coming with it 🔥✨
I just couldn’t bear the idea of a mermaid trapped inside a jar, like some kind of specimen 😭 so I came up with this little story ☺️ I had the best time drawing it! My themes were Magnolia, given by Iliane and Nelly (they both chose the same 😮what a coincidence 🌸) and Seafoam from Adele 🌊🥰 I love you sm Adele 💖🫶🏻 It took me two days to figure out how to draw seafoam and it still looks off😂

Fourth and last prompt of our enchanted drawing challenge 🌷Fairy Tales in Spring🌷 Blooming Dreams - The Princess and the Pea 🫛
The plot of this fairytale is simple and straightforward. A young woman arrives at a castle during a storm, claiming to be a true princess. The prince is determined to marry a princess. To test her, the queen hides a pea beneath a stack of mattresses. The girl spends an awful night and doesn’t get any sleep because the bed is so uncomfortable. The next morning, she complains about it to the queen, who is overjoyed by the news. Only a real princess, sensitive enough to feel it, can prove her nobility.

I chose this fairytale because I wanted to challenge myself by drawing the infamous candy house. As a child, while reading the story, I was always quite puzzled by the fact that Hansel and Gretel, despite having a gigantic cake at their disposal, still accepted the witch’s invitation, who, in the end, offered them milk and cookies. To this day, I still can’t make sense of it 😑
This week is my birthday 🎉🎂 when I was little my birthday cake was always homemade: sponge cake with cream and strawberries 🍰Growing up, unfortunately, I became intolerant to strawberries… 🍓💔so here it is, the birthday cake of my childhood 🥰

Second prompt of our enchanted drawing challenge 🌷Fairy Tales in Spring🌷 is The Apple Tree – Snow White 🍎
I pictured Snow White as a wealthy young woman from the early 16th century, dressed in garments true to her time. I’ve always been fascinated by historical fashion and this felt like the perfect chance to explore it 🤩
I adore the richness of those fabrics, the weight of the embroideries, and especially the paning of the garments, revealing the luxurious layers beneath.
This is the young early Renaissance lady the seven dwarfs found before them, richly dressed and quite out of place in the forest 🥰🤭

Fun fact: I rewatched the movie for the occasion a couple of weeks ago, and since then I’ve had all the songs playing in my head 24/7. They won’t stop 😂
