Two years of kindness, community and collaboration. We're looking back on what we've been up to over the last two years and sharing some highlights and fond memories this week, and today wed like to share with you that:
🧸We've continued to look after and improve our children's play and kindness corner, a place for adults to relax and children to imagine, make friends and build confidence.
🍴Meal donations from Cook Billericay allowed us to launch our weekly Supper Club, where people can come together an enjoy an evening meal.
🎸We've hosted many talented musicians who have volunteered their time to perform for Sunday Social
🛍️We've built valuable connections with local creatives and small business through our Community Market, raising money for Human Kind, while giving a platform for makers to sell their creations.
🎲We received funding from Billericay Town Council for board games and equipment for our social group, supporting the weekly activities we provide.
🌷We received funding from Basildon Council to create a social garden space, including a beautiful mural created with suggestions from our community. We've just started our second season of growing, and our excited to use some homegrown produce soon!
🍽️Last year we launched our vegetarian and vegan roast dinners, which have been incredibly popular. We were proud to provide so many of you with vegan Yorkshire puddings for your Christmas dinners!
🧵We've developed an exciting events programme, from sewing, crafts and crochet, to mental health support and exercise sessions. We host over 140 hours of events, attended by 750 people on average each month.
🍳We received our first corporate sponsorship from Crocus Wealth, who are supporting our quarterly Community Breakfast. We've hosted two breakfasts, welcoming 107 people to join us for a shared community meal to start the day, and being supported by the Crocus Wealth Team.
We're going to be celebrating with a birthday party this Saturday, with an all-day buffet, games and activities and a chance to chat to our team about what we do and how you can get involved, so pop down to Human Kind between 9am-4pm to enjoy the fun.
This week we celebrate our 2nd birthday! Two years of kindness, community and collaboration. We're going to be looking back and what we've been up to over the last two years and sharing some highlights and fond memories this week, including:
🎶We've hosted some incredible performances from the very talented children of Focus Music
👨👩👧👦We received funding from the Co-op Community Fund to start our Intergenerational lunch project. So far we've worked with 3 schools over 7 months, welcoming over 100 people to enjoy lunch together and teach kindness and acceptance to young people.
🌳We launched our Giving Tree and have had over 150 donations of meals, hot drinks and sweet treats to be used by the community.
🍰We've spent many hours outside meeting the community and handing out tasters of our delicious vegetarian food.
🥯We've started lots of new events to bring people together and provide good food, including our new Bank Holiday Bagels, Buns and Games.
🤗We currently have a team of 81 volunteers, and have been supported by a whopping 6861 (and counting!) front-of-house hours given by 165 volunteers, We've also supported 10 Duke of Edinburgh students to complete their volunteer hours.
🐕We met loads of lovely furry friends who always brighten up our day.
💕We've been part of your big life events, from baby showers, to celebrations of life and everything in between by providing a friendly space and plenty of food.
🎁We gave away hundreds of Christmas presents last year in our Christmas Kindness Exchange, encouraging people to pay it forward and make someone's day with a small act of kindness.
We couldn't have done this without the support of our wonderful community who donate time, resources and money to keep us going, and the amazing organisations we've collaborated with. We're going to be celebrating with a birthday party this Saturday, with an all-day buffet, games and activities and a chance to chat to our team about what we do and how you can get involved, so pop down to Human Kind between 9am-4pm to enjoy the fun.
Our Wednesday Social Group is our longest running community group which our incredible volunteers have been running since before the cafe opened. Our weekly sessions were originally in the Reading Rooms on Billericay High Street, before we moved to our beautiful new space.
Every week we put on an activity, this may include crafting, bingo, quizzes, guest speakers, flower arranging, etc. We also provide complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits for all attendees.
Our relaxed sessions are to bring people together, connect and combat loneliness. Everyone is welcome, whether you’d like to pop-in alone or with a friend, you’ll always find friendly faces to have a cuppa and chat with.
We’d love to see you, so please feel free to drop-in any Wednesday morning between 9.30-11.30am. See you there!🫶
