When you test your new 16mm cam at the YHWH Nailgun show, you make something out of it — so @matts_a_cat hit me up to edit the footage that he and @themichaelspencer shot. Thanks to @tristanlturner for lending footage from his film Inside World to bring it all together, and to @yhwhnailgun for supplying the live audio — go buy and listen to their album 45 Pounds or else.

This is a still from the first thing I directed on my own. It’s a music video for the genius @louistherapper — and it was shot in the apartments that David Lynch shot Blue Velvet. When I wrote the concept — of a man entering a party and skipping through decades of his life at a time — I knew that I wanted to set it there. I walked past it almost every day, and every single time I thought about David Lynch. And besides, if we leave our mark on the spaces we inhabit, then why couldn’t this apartment building contain some of him?
I had been communing with Lynch’s work since I was a teenager, but being in this space, creating with the same medium he did, made me feel like I was communing in a different way. May we all one day create something that people want to dwell within. RIP to David Lynch, here’s to a lifetime of communion.

Spent election week in DC with three great friends shooting a comedy movie. We tried to follow the energy of the country in real time and it took us to some uhhhh interesting places. Unbelievably grateful for the friendship and collaboration that made this week a bright, hilarious, and appropriately upsetting experience. More to come soon.
