Fro Doe
Wanted to do a dumb pun/riff paying homage to the iconic Jane Doe image from @jbannon for the @converge record of the same name with the just as iconic promo poster from Fellowship Of The Ring of Frodo holding the One Ring and thus Fro Doe was born. Wild to have Converge back this year with not one but two records, truly an embarrassment of riches in the world of heavy music so far in 2026 in general but it helps to have one of the best to ever do it back contributing in a major way.
A bit slow on the New Releases-front on my end for this past month, but of the albums I did listen to these have all been some of my favorite and most repeated listens of anything released so far this year. If this is was my top five albums released this year it’d be a hell of a list, but in a world that continues to flood with shit it’s refreshing to catch some nuggets of gold in that sea of swill. Plus, my face at the end for the algo photographed by the the supremely talented @mhrileyy .

The world might be sinking into oblivion but another month that felt like a year has gone by and with it another crop of phenomenal records were released. Here I highlight for you but a smattering of what was released into the ether in the month of February (and one release from the previous month that snuck in). There’s plenty of releases that I loved from this month that I just didn’t get a chance to write a blurb about or spend as much time with (Jill Scott, Trauma Ray, MX Lonely, Gorillaz, Colin Stetson, NYPD, Angel Du$t, Blackwater Holylight and Larry June w/ Curren$y & The Alchemist are just some of the other artists who released records I really liked) and I’m sure there’s plenty of great stuff I missed. First week of February down and the longest month of the year officially over with. With January wrapped, I’ve decided to do a bit of an exercise for myself for the year of doing quick little blurbs about my favorite albums released within the past month. So we kick off January with five stand-out faves from five very different artists going in alphabetical order. Hopefully there’s something you hear that you haven’t heard or given a chance yet, they’re all quite good and special in their own way. We’re inundated with heavy terrible shit every day but there’s still great art to be appreciated. Remember to do what you can for your neighbors and community.

Began this year by finally watching both seasons of the Stephen Soderbergh directed masterpiece The Knick and had to fast track this print to pay homage to what pretty immediately has become my favorite television drama of all time. Just pure bitchy, nightmarish insanity that happens to be one of the most humane pieces of media I’ve been witness too. This is my favorite design so far and @2.5.i.inthe.morgue did an incredible job bringing my vision to life.
