Hugo is a stop motion director and co-founder of Spare Flesh. Spare Flesh make twisted, musical, horror/comedy stop motion shorts.
They will be sharing a finished film - it’s the first episode of their new online series of shorts called “”Private View””. This episode is an indroductory episode featuring a teapot and it’s called “”Smiling With Tea””.

For those in the know, yes this film is three years old. We're still just squeezing a bit more milk from the old stuff while we work on new stuff. Also experimenting with formatting BTS in a way that people might actually watch on these platforms. Does it work? Are you engaged? Want to know more? Want to know less?
We WILL have some new stuff soon. No one told us that stop motion takes ages to make.

We've always been particularly bad at capturing behind the scenes stuff. When working on a tight budget and timeframe, ones focus is completely taken up with the task at hand.
Luckily, some LAVS (Live action videos) have survived. These have always been an important part of the process for us, and serve as a guide for movement and timing while animating. As you can see we don't stick to them religiously, but they make a good foundation for certain bits of movement.

Save the date! Or better yet, subscribe to our YT and turn on notifications. We've been sitting on this short film for a while as it's been doing the film festival rounds. It's picked up some awards and nominations and was even in the semi-finals for the student oscars (ooh-la-la!)

Trying to sort out mountains of old files and discovered this gem from when I was doing journalism, short documentaries posted under "Hugo Docs". I guess this was to be some sort of transition or intro? Who knows.
