⭐️FYC - BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT⭐️ From an idea to the screen, Equal Play has been one wild ride. 🎥 What started as a story about access to physical activity for disabled kids in school grew into something much bigger – a celebration of disabled joy, resilience, and the power of play. Along the way, we faced challenges (like finding accessible venues and cinemas, so much more can be spoken about in this area) but also witnessed unforgettable moments of strength and connection. With 45% of our crew being disabled, this film became a labour of love and representation, proving that stories about inclusion CAN and SHOULD be created inclusively. Thank you to everyone who supported this journey – from Tammy and Marley, and their families, who shared their incredible lives with us, to the festivals and audiences who believed in the power of this film. The journey isn’t over – it’s just beginning!! 💪🏼☺️ [IMG ID: 5 golden laurels on top, followed by For Your Consideration, Best Documentary Short and EQUAL PLAY logo on an off white background. Illustrated portraits of Marley and Tammy flank the logo, along with abstract colorful mark making. For Your Consideration, Best Documentary Short Film ⭐️ EQUAL PLAY ⭐️ @channel4 First by making a splash at Uninterrupted Film Festival, powered by @tribeca and LeBron James, by winning the AUDIENCE AWARD, Equal Play made its first mark. Brought to you by the same EP that gave you Wim Winder’s Academy Award nominated PERFECT DAYS, Equal Play tells the story of Marley and Tammy, two disabled kids, their journey with sports and how it changed their lives. Endearing, humorous, tenacious and packed with a lot of disabled joy, EQUAL PLAY premiered on @channel4 just prior to the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Furthermore it made its East Coast premiere at @hamptonsfilm and has screened with SUPER/MAN: The Christopher Reeve Story and Patrice: The Movie on the screening circuit. Proud to say that 45% of the HoDs and crew identify as disabled, d/Deaf and/or neurodivergent. We hope EQUAL PLAY continues to spark conversations about accessibility to sport in school and create lasting change and opportunities for disabled kids everywhere. [IMG ID: 5 laurels on the top including Hamptons, Uninterrupted, NEIFF, LVFF and Paladino d’Oro, Equal Play logo with text “For your consideration, best documentary short film” with illustration of Tammy in an orange racing wheelchair on off white background; colorful mark making surrounds Tammy] #FYC #ForYourConsideration #EqualPlay #ShortDoc #AcademyAwards #Oscars #Documentary #Filmmaking #Film #WomenInFilm #Film

Following the success of Rising Phoenix (2020) we knew that we wanted go deeper. To see what it is like to be a Paralympian today and what it takes to become one. And so as Covid-19 dawned on the world, we set out on a production that, at times, we didn’t know if we would be able to finish. Thankfully, we did – all thanks to the incredible dedication of a cast and crew that we were so fortunate to share this experience with. Having the opportunity to create Rising Phoenix: Road to Tokyo was an incredible privilege and we are immensely grateful to the athletes who are the soul of this series: @femitaayanbeku , @bayat_nil , @pascalebercovitch , @kim.daybell , @samgrewe , @dee_kisser , @najlah_imad , @grigorispolychronidis , @monikaseryu , @birgitskarstein , @laurentiatan and Ananias Shikongo. It would not have been possible without a team who were passionate about these stories, masterful in their craft, and determined to overcome every challenge: @mat_whitecross , @bimmyman and @venture.land – thank you. Lastly, we are so thankful to the International Paralympic Committee for your ongoing partnership and collaboration. We are humbled to be a part of your movement. Rising Phoenix: Road to Tokyo is now available on Channel 4 in the UK and on the @paralympics YouTube channel globally.

Today we’re thrilled to share a video that shows a glimpse behind the scenes on the production of upcoming feature documentary Rising Phoenix: A New Revolution (w/t). This production, in partnership with @proctergamble , pushes for diverse representation both in front of and behind the camera, with half of the crew identifying as having a disability. We hope the film can ignite a global conversation around disability equality.
