the last few photos of this three part series. i thought that this would be a nice few photos to wrap this triptych of a larger triptych up. i wanted to convey freedom and movement - a breaking away from constraint, again, tradition foregrounding a contemporary scene. ive always understood myself as a vessel for those who’ve come before me and navigating how to also be true to myself has been something that i, and i’m sure many others, are no stranger to. this whole series from jane and jielin, ella, to lily, are an exploration of heritage, identity, belonging, and dichotomies of the past and present. thank you to everyone who supported my chaos, especially @https.audreybug for your dedication and incredibly makeup artistry and @eb___archive and @viviansizeng for supporting❤️i’m hoping to do more projects like these that bring people together - stay tuned!!

shoot journal entry:
when I conceptualized this shoot I wanted to explore femininity and tradition in Chinese culture and diaspora. @https.audreybug did such an amazing job with the historical inspired makeup and i had some dried flowers as a symbol of womanhood and decay. to my surprise this shoot ended up evolving, and i saw this as an exploration beyond feminine identity and into queerness. how does culture background sexuality and orientation? where do we find joy within sorrow? how do our identities interplay with our roots? these are all questions that sprung to mind as i conceptualized this shoot. i always enjoy how directionless some of these processes are - they take you to new and interesting destinations.
