Holland Project Galleries

We are so excited to announce the next exhibition in the HP Gallery, “Cross Reference: Artists Respond to the Radius Book Collection”. For the past few years, we have been the lucky recipients of Radius Books’ expansive donation and education program, which donates hundreds of copies of every book they publish to libraries, schools, arts organizations, and community centers in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. These books, which highlight the work of accomplished artists we admire, serve as an incredible source of inspiration in the HP Library. For “Cross Reference”, we selected 14 titles from our collection of over three dozen, and prompted visual artists to do a deep dive and respond through a piece of their own work. This group exhibition includes 17 artists from across Nevada and California, and will be on view starting May 22nd! More info at hollandreno.org/art

MINI-MART is an artist market all about art, print, zines, and DIY publishing and the third annual event takes place MAY 23rd from 10am-3pm. Meet regional artists and zine makers, take free hands-on workshops with local artists and members of Laika Press, check out Holland’s Library update and DIY Darkroom, and more! Save the date 🗓️ . 🔜 NEXT UP in the galleries! We’re excited to announce a collaboration with ***XL**, this time a solo exhibition in Serva Pool - “ʀᴀᴅɪᴄᴀʟ! 𝒸𝒽𝒾𝒸! 𝙛𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙤𝙣! 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗘!“ - on view May 13-June 12 👀 more pix/details soon! . . Last night was a movie. (You were streaming perpetual war.) The sidewalk is my runway. (A camera on every door.) Strike a pose. (The angle from your eye to your nose.) Anything can be a face nowadays. Who designed the costumes for those political actors? Towards stylish art; a stylist’s artist. Wearable sculpture. Appareled in criminality. Performance or the real thing? Collage as garment. The fabric of our lives. A heart on your sleeve. A wolf in sheep’s clothing. Patterning, pinning, drape. A tracked body. A body of work working to evade capture. The clothes-body unit. To mend, to extend. Errant frequencies of desire. Peace-on-earth officer on the floor. Quick and easy returns. Pure time out of nowhere. Historicism’s ripped trousers. Out of the closet and into the gallery. This show has been seized as an opportunity to continue to reincorporate one’s former loves of fashion design, styling, and image-making into their practice at large. To “put on” again fashion’s unique capacities to inspire self-discovery and solidarity, complicate cultural norms, and undermine world structures. It’s an impulse to clarify for oneself where this potential lies within the context of capitalism’s regulating drive towards self-identification through commerce, the relative ease with which one can adopt a “look”, and the persistent desire to be seen while surveillance technology infiltrates most aspects of our lives.

Find art demos and hands-on activities, live DJs, free art supplies, mutual aid and info, author and poet readings, 2 new local artist exhibitions, open houses in the HP Library and DIY Darkroom, and MORE.

The HP Gallery will be closed for gallery hours on Saturday as we prepare to install our next group exhibition, “Cross Reference”, in which regional artists have responded to @radius.books from the HP Library. ***XL**’s exhibition in Serva Pool will be OPEN however from 10am-2pm - please use side entrance 💖

Mini-Mart is just around the corner, and we are SO EXCITED! Take a look at just a few of our participating artists…we are thrilled to be bringing together another killer lineup of 2D artists from Reno and beyond. Lots more vendor highlights to come as the big day draws near ⏰ Join us on May 23rd for our third annual art and print fest! Free mini workshops and demos all day, poet and author readings, DJ sets by @kwnk97.7 , open galleries @hpgalleries , darkroom open house, free art supplies, zines, food trucks, and MORE. Participating locations include The Holland Project, Laika Press, The Radical Cat, and Tooti Frooti, all within short walking distance from each other. Entry is FREE at all locations, 10am-3pm.
