Howlin Rain - Lost at Sea: Rarities, Outtakes and Other Tales from the Deep Long time coming to its official release friends! Whew ~ doozy and glad to have this one hitting the boards finally! Managed to get a couple more epics on here since the 2020 sneak peek too! Lost at Sea will be released November 29th on @silvercurrent . Howlin Rain’s grand 3xLP archival statement and untold story, was written over nearly two decades in invisible ink between the lines. Features never before heard songs from The Russian Wilds, The Dharma Wheel, The Alligator Bride, Mansion Songs, Live Rain and the lost Ethan Miller Band sessions. Lost at Sea boasts a broad cast of musical characters including Rick Rubin (Producer/American Records), Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars), Scarlet Rivera (Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue), Joel Robinow, Raj Ojha and Eli Eckert (Once and Future Band), Isaiah Mitchell (Earthless), Tim Green (Producer, engineer) and many more. The album includes songs by The Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Leon Russell and Neil Merryweather. “I wanted to compile the record so it would have impact like our grandest, wildest, most unabashed studio album. I left out home demos, and songs from quiet corners, sketches, etc, in favor of fully formed, fully finished, studio level tracks from front to back. Lost at Sea is intended to be something that you can pour yourself into and get swept away in.” —Ethan Miller (Founder, bandleader) Listen and download the first single and Russian Wilds outtake “Down a Drain” now and preorder on limited edition 3xLP, 2xCD and digital at: howlinrain.bandcamp.com Link in Bio Legendary legendary cover art by @arikroper Thank you @louderstudios for all the work on this (over the last 15 years!) One of my very favorite endeavours of ‘24 -‘25 was producing Alex ET’s burner The Color of Strange. Engineered and mixed by the great Eric Bauer (@kcsupersounds ) and out now on @curation_records . Opal, Heron Oblivion, Howlin Rain fans ~ Do not miss ~ check it all out: @trulyalexet “Hypnotic...blissed out paisley pop, swirling mysticism and sun-baked grunge” ~ Uncut “A soup of electric guitar howl and brooding intensity”~ Mojo “Beneath the distortion and the trippy trimmings stands a classic singer-songwriter who could hold her own in any decade” ~ Shindig “Summery guitar music for heads... as much a golden vibe as a sound” ~ Bandcamp

Last year I went and produced the new album by Alex ET in Los Angeles with @king_riff . Alex’s new single “Calico 2” the smoulder-to-burn centerpiece and inner-circle favorite of the new album tunes is now streaming and available for download everywhere digital music rides. I hear echoes of Heron Oblivion, if the Pretenders had gone psychedelic, fave ‘90s female-led grunge, LA paisley, VU’s extended live marathon jams- all swirling around in this one ~ lots to love in the Calico 2 flight of musical cocktails and a killer band performance to top it off! A great video that @mikaeljorgensen shot and edited of Robyn, Lee, Nels and me rehearsing Desolation Row in the back of the @woodyguthriecenter for the Dylan ‘Going Electric’ show last weekend. What a tune. So deep and dark, though so many colors bursting from moment to moment, raw mortality and the infinite fusing in a big bang of lysergic cave paintings that scroll and scroll and then seem different each time it begins again. One of Dylan’s greatest masterpieces.

New episodes return! On this episode of Songs of Our Lives, it’s Ethan Miller! Ethan’s got a new trio record on the way with @palilaliarecords and @steveshelley (talk about a dream team), so I had to get his side about how that all came into being. Then we wade into the weeds yapping about a good wordless chorus, why the New York Dolls should have been on the Voyager gold record, King Crimson, Dylan, Faust, Sonny Sharrock, Tom Jones, and loads more! Listen via Foxy Digitalis or wherever you listen to podcasts. Hear the full, unabridged conversation exclusively on Patreon (the exclusive section on this one is especially fun heh). The trio record is out on September 5! (photo by Rachel Orcutt)

Last year I had the great pleasure and honor of producing the KILLER new album Color Of Strange by @trulyalexet , out on @brent_rademaker ’s awesome label @curation_records Sept 26th. Recorded in Los Angeles at Discount Mirrors by the one and only @king_riff ! Color of Strange is a rough-cut chunk of Los Angeles’ grand musical myth in a bottle. The echoes of early Slash Records and LA’s ‘80s psychedelic renaissance abound, not to mention a beautiful, gravity-defying voice blooming out of dirty jangle and fuzz-blasted guitars. Alex and band were a gas to work with on this album. They really ride a perfect line for me between fuzzy psychedelia and that moment when the iconoclasts of punk and new wave began to write hooks that would be in our heads for the rest of our lives. In Alex’s songs there is the excitement and dreaminess and the silver light of LA everywhere, and then this raw, tougher edge from her Cleveland roots beneath the hood. I’m not sure I can think of any recent band that has so poignantly taken me back to my teenage state of mind; on one hand laid out on the floor in the middle of the night, headphones on, lost in an album playing over and over— while also delivering everything I love about raw electric guitar rock and all it’s ways to smolder, scorch and explode. ~ Ethan Miller Fans of Howlin Rain and Heron Oblivion will surely love! Listen to the first single “Summer For Now” wherever music streams and downloads. Follow @trulyalexet for all the info!
