Check out this live dub monsta from Lux Trevis at Rancho Relaxo. What a band! The music speaks for itself (thanks in no small part to ace producer, Shaun @ranchorelaxostudio ). A cool green and gold lighting scheme brings out the vintage vibes of the space, and the addition of a roving camera from the excellent @harrisonjoyce added a a good dollop artistry to our palette of shots. Here’s a snippet of the awesome Lux Trevis set we captured at Rancho Relaxo Studio in Austinmer. Lovely trumpet break from Sarah Purdon– man these folks can play! Misso – Live at Rancho Relaxo. Been working with genius music producer Shaun Gaida on creating a series of live music films from Rancho Relaxo Studio in Austinmer. I’ve been on lighting, setting cameras, vision switching and editing so it’s been a great opportunity to dust the cobwebs off my shoot smarts and get stuck into that side of things for a change. Got around to cutting a showreel of work from the last few years. Tried to let the pieces playout enough to get a sense of the stories, while also allowing them to be rollicked along by the excellent choon (thanks Betta Lemme!). Nothing quite as much fun to make as a music cut 🤘🔥❤️
Givenchy X Disney. Givenchy wanted to show Disney characters in the window of their flagship store in Paris to announce their new colab collection. That’s a red flag for Disney so I came up with the idea of a zoetrope as a kind of safe space, middle-ground, where both the characters and the store could coexist. Disney were happy enough to get their animation team to create a hand drawn version of the Givenchy store and to roto the characters from the original movies. Givenchy were happy enough to put the creative all over their social sites. Lovely animation blending 2 and 3D by the fabulous Blind Pig @blindpig_tv .

Darth Vader figure toy ad for Disney. I love the idea that with nothing better to do, the dark side will resort to petty vandalism. At the end I wanted the pen lid to shoom back onto the pen but Disney wouldn’t let me. Yah boo to the fun police! Plaudits to Macy Trieu @matridi_film for turning the corner of a bleak warehouse into a homely sideboard. More note perfect lighting and cinematography by Si and his ludicrously long periscope lens @simonpauldop .

Tiana Hair Style. Cutdown promo for one of a series of Disney hair tutorials for parents to try with their kids. Lovely performances from Amma Antwi (mum) and Vivien Streeks and beautifully captured by Oli Scholfield @o_o_oliver . I must give a shout to Polly Mann @pollymanncostume because apart from being brilliant at wardrobe she has the superpower of making talent feel great, so when they arrive on set, they're relaxed and ready. Invaluable.

Clarks Bootleg sponsors SpongeBob Squarepants. Riffing off the SB opening titles we created a series of skits featuring shoes from the range. So much fun doing this one. Adam Beer @adambeerillustration brought his immense storytelling and storyboarding chops to this and became a de facto co-director. The awesome team at Blue Zoo @blue_zoo animated it to perfection. The icing on the cake is the effortlessly unhinged voice work from the inimitable Rupert Degas @rupert_degas .

Star Wars ATAT toy ad. What if the toy you bought home had some dark-side energy that would cause havoc the moment your back was turned? That was the creative thread I devised for this campaign. Thanks To Simon Paul @simonpauldop and his ludicrous Optex Excellence lens for another beautifully crafted end shot. Artfully destroyed food (sorry food!) by Macy @matridi_film .

Ready Brek. Sponsor bumps for Nickelodeon. The agency wanted to reflect the live-action TV ad where Ready Brek gives drawing powers to a kid. This reminded me of old comics so we tried to capture the style and spirit of 70s Fleetway comics with 2d animation, goofy characters, clean linework. My favourite thing is the backgrounds – minimally suggested with single colour and no lines – reductive genius! Amazing work by Stu Gamble at Freakish Kid who nailed the brief and brought those old comics back to life with a BA-DOING!
