Inspired by the dark mythological legend Krampus, reimagined through the playful and alluring runway category of Ho Ho Ho’s. I grew up immersed in apocalyptic/fighter based video games (Mortal Kombat, Assassins Creed and Call of Duty: Zombies, to name a few), This look merges those influences with my love for The Walking Dead, particularly my obsession with Michonne, who to me embodies the essence of a true warrior queen. This look is an embodiment of Alexander McQueen’s final look from his SS99 show which features Shalom Harlow being sprayed by robotic arms. This show made me fall in love with the power of storytelling through fashion and materials. Although this look is simple, it speaks volume for its cultural impact. This look draws inspiration from both Patsy and Edina’s outfits from this funeral scene as well as a touch of gothicism. Though this runway was particularly challenging for me and the result isn’t one I’m entirely satisfied with, that’s precisely the purpose of this project. To push myself beyond comfort and exploring unfamiliar aesthetics. For this runway, I wanted to take a more abstract approach to the theme of “cuddly wuddly”. I found it challenging to see where my design aesthetic could fit within those parameters, so I began exploring what makes something feel soft and be perceived as cuddly. That’s what led me to the idea of embodying the essence and presence of a deer with elements of taxidermy. This look was created using bin bags and plastic, drawing inspiration from season 6 winner @kyranthrax and their iconic use of unconventional materials.
