A few things I’d do differently next time:
✨ Late nights are fun. Early mornings are fun. Just not back to back.
✨ More actual downtime to explore the city. Not just trying to fit it in between plans.
✨ Smaller group. 30 was a lot of fun, but it definitely makes it harder to keep the experience consistent for each person.
✨ More, more, more communication, always more than you think! Both verbal, written, and whatever else you can think of - people retain information differently.

I wrote that in the summer of 2024, when I came home to the U.S. from Bogotá after almost 3 years abroad, in between jobs and excited for a new chapter but also feeling that something was missing. I wanted to take advantage of the down time to reflect, so I found some ikigai exercises — a Japanese concept that translates to “reason for being.”
I knew I was seeking:
✨ opportunities to share my deep love for Latin America with others
✨ slower (tranqui😉), intentional travel experiences rooted in presence
✨ more spaces where people like me - eager for connection and adventure - can connect
To test my concept, I just took a group of 30 to Colombia for the Feria de Cali / Medellín, and we had an unforgettable time.
So now, I’m launching travel.tranqui — my new brand for planning travel. travel.tranqui combines my knack for curating group experiences with my talent for immersing myself locally as I explore the world.

I wanted to write about things I’ve done in the last year that scare(d) me, but then I started musing and this turned into a blog post that continues in the comments. So TL;DR (who are we kidding it’s long) I’m bringing the important stuff up front: for my every-6-months social media update I want to share what I’m proud of with my people. Because that deserves celebrating, which is somehow really hard? And that in my pretty protected life I didn’t know the depths to which fear could run the show - it is a constant battle to face it but when I do it’s always been worth it.
And in the process some really really amazing people show up to remind you that there are no wrong decisions and that life really keeps on giving - whether it’s @mami_dt who has become not only a mentor but a true friend, my parents who love Uva as much as I do, @_.conns who has become my ADHD offensive tackle team and shown me it’s superpowers, @emilluh who is ready to sub in for my inner advocate at any moment when it doesn’t want to show up, or my new Majesty friends who remind me that special, life-changing people can show up where you least expect it if you take a chance (+ a million others I’ve met in the last year).
And lastly, that as someone who is in a seemingly constant state of comparison, including to all the people I mentioned, it has and is requiring a massive mental shift to be more grateful that I have all these lovely accomplished, kind, and fascinating people in my life than jealous and scared that I will never be like them or my version of them. And that the only way to continue evolving into the person I want to be is to continue experimenting with trying the things that make me scared because on the other side is the most unexpected and delicious and human JOY.
