A big thank you to all the bartenders that participated in the first ever Planteray Rum Tropical Week: Philippine Cocktail Competition! It was a difficult choice, but with the help of our esteemed panel, we've selected the top 12 entries who will be presenting their cocktails to the judges on May 25 at Opal to see if their cocktail will get them the chance to win a trip to France! Until then, the top 12 will be serving their entries at their respective bars for the month of May (until May 24). Show some love for the top 12 entries and visit their bars to try their tropical cocktail creations!

Absinthe Pontarlier – Cousin Jeune is a classic French absinthe from the historic Pontarlier region in the Jura mountains — the cradle of traditional absinthe production. Crafted by the family-run distillery Les Fils d’Émile Pernot, which traces its roots back to the 19th century and the original Cousin Jeune brand, this absinthe is distilled using a blend of aromatic herbs including Artemisia absinthium (wormwood), green anise, and other botanicals. It reflects a century-old recipe preserved through generations, offering a clean, herb-driven spirit with authentic character and structural depth.

According to legend, La Gauloise owes its name to the face that it was already being made when France was still called La Gaule. The Roman legions preferred this tasty liqueur to mead. The recipe for this incomparable elixir was lost in the annals of time - until 1873, when Sieur Requier, a liquorist and no doubt a bit of an alchemist, found it in an old grimoire. In the silence of the celars, the master liquorist skillfully blends angelica, St. John's wort, saffron, cardamom, genepi, and many other ingredients whose ancestral secret he preciously keeps, in a double distillation over a wood fire. To ensure that finesse and roundness are combined wit power, he adds just the right amount of fine brandy and simple syrup. Finally, after slow ageing, La Gauloise reveals its exceptional aromatic palette.
