Making rum comes with responsibility!
Our distillery was the first in the Caribbean to earn Bonsucro certification, ensuring the land and the people who tend it are treated with the respect they deserve. Our Fairtrade partnerships carry that same spirit forward.
It continues with how we package our rums. Lighter bottles, like our Planteray XO Rum, glass reduced by 30%, and new formats such as eco-pouches help us cut weight, reduce transport impact, and save over 11 tons of glass each year.
At @stadesrumdistillery , solar panels are already part of the process, while new projects are underway to turn by-products into renewable energy, moving towards a more circular, self-sufficient model.
Step by step, this is how we move forward. With a clear goal: carbon neutrality by 2040.

For its third maturation, the rum rests in Pedro Ximénez casks shared with our partners at Bodega Malaga Virgen in Spain. A family winery with more than 130 years of history, still guided by generations who care deeply about what they produce.
It’s a relationship built over time, two worlds connected through craft, each bringing something of their own.
Those PX casks add gentle notes of dried fruit and softness, rounding the rum while keeping its Barbadian character right where it belongs.

A year ago, together with NH Reethi Resort des Maldives, we decided to try something out of the ordinary.
We placed a few bottles of Planteray rum under the sea, just off the island, and left them there.
The question was simple: what happens when you let the ocean take part in ageing rum?
A year later, we brought the bottles back up and we tasted them on the spot.
The sea had clearly left its mark and the differences between the rums were striking: the Planteray XO kept its depth, with a subtle iodised edge, while the Planteray Stiggins and Planteray O.F.T.D. showed a much stronger maritime influence, more in cocktails than neat. After decanting and tasting again the next day, the rums had softened, though traces of the ocean remained.
This wasn’t about getting a perfect result. It was about pushing things a little further, learning along the way, and sharing a unique aging and tasting experience.
