“Personal” is an understatement to describe this visual and the project as a whole. We shot this at mi Tio y Tia’s crib in Forest Hills. They are soley responsible for my relationship with The Gap as a kid. I vividly remember them gifting me a paisley shirt when I was in the 6th grade and you couldn’t tell me that I didn’t look like
@plugwondelasoul in it.
My sister Ingrid at the same time in the late 80’s started going to the clubs of downtown NYC. My sister was a “house head”. Back then the clubs were not musically segregated yet. Your favorite DJ of that time had to be able to play all genres (hip hop, house, reggae & freestyle). I watched her get dressed in her green Gap anorak and head to city every weekend. I will breakdown the visual references in another post.
The Gap is a part of NYC apparel DNA. I’m honored that I was given the platform to tell this story and connect the dots. (No pun intended)
