Petition link in bio: Helmets 4 All . . Currently, helmets used for outdoor activities such as climbing and challenge courses come in a very limited range of sizes which are not designed to accommodate the hair of black and brown people or those who wear religious head coverings. In the challenge course industry and in the realm of guided climbing, if a client cannot fit into a helmet, they are not able to participate at all due to liability reasons. This is cutting people off at the first point of contact for many adventurers. . . Recreational and professional climbers with big hair are forced to choose between unfair options: 👎Climb with an ill-fitting helmet that does not protect the sides of the head in case of a fall into the rock and may be uncomfortable. 👎Climb without a helmet and accept a higher level of risk as a result. 👎Avoid styles of climbing where a helmet is a crucial part of risk mitigation (for instance only ever climbing indoors, or only bouldering). 👎Spend hours at a time putting hair into a protective style in order to accommodate a helmet (which is not even an option in some cases, such as dreads). . . Outdoor companies are neglecting people with big heads and hair which is unfortunately consistent with the pattern of underrepresentation in the entire outdoor industry. Helmet designers are well overdue in reaching out to black and brown athletes and those who wear religious head coverings to talk about how helmets work. Let's tell them to do better now. #representationmatters #diversifyoutdoors #helmetsforall

One of my goals when starting The Dirtbag Fund was to collaborate with young filmmakers to create content celebrating some of the grantees! I’m excited to present my first piece of DBF content…Head over to my YouTube (link in profile) to watch the short film “May, They, She” shot, directed and edited by @trevorlately and starring the legendary bad ass @heyitsmayjay May used the 1k dirtbag grant to offer a free 2 day skills retreat that got some folks out of the city and into the gunks to introduce them to outdoor climbing! May is sweet and giving person who is very busy working to promote equity in climbing for all people in NYC through partners like @nycclimbingcollective @riseoutsidecollective @heyflashfoxy @browngirlsclimb @kinshipclimbingcollective …. Also THANKS to @fattire @thenorthface @lasportivana @blackdiamond who all contributed to making this possible.

Sometimes climbing is who we are, and sometimes its just what we do. Its the fluidity between the two thats important. May, @heyitsmayjay (they/them) invited their many forms.

“How’s it been living in the mountains, May?” . . Oh you know, understanding weather patterns that will confuse the poop out of you, living and doing life with the sweetest bean @krausieklimbs , and still partially unemployed but doing my best and will keep figure it out! Oh and being between 5k and 8k feet of elevation is wild AF and sometimes it’s still hard to breathe LOL. People are really nice here, but still looking for more ways to connect with BIPOC and Queer folks in the area! . . The mountains make me cry and I’ve been climbing at a gym again!! Truckee usually has snow till May or June, but this year things have been a lil grim and I’m not trying to get used to the lack of snow. The best part is being surrounded by so much and access is pretty incredible. I started biking again with the blue border of happiness and finding ways to love of recreating outside for fun. Bit by bit! . . Excited to keep exploring and have bee slowing tf down. I’m also excited to see more California friends soon and head over to the Bay. Oh, and California is massive af if you didn’t already know that… . . #californiadreaming #onebiteatatime

Join @arcteryx athlete @heyitsmayjay at Mini Fest to take your technical climbing skills to the next level in their Self-Rescue and Trad for Sport Climbers clinics! . Self-Rescue helps you prepare for those inevitable mishaps at the crag, and how to extricate you and your climbing partners from them so you don’t have to call for a rescue. We’ll cover basic methods of ascending a rope to help a climber, assisting a climber through a crux from both above or below, taking over a belay from someone else, and simple rappel techniques. We’ll use scenarios to explore improvised solutions and best practices, instead of just teaching a few cookie-cutter drills that might not apply in the real world, and you’ll leave with a solid set of tools to handle most situations that could happen at a crag. . Trad for Sport Climbers is for folks who are ready to venture away from bolted cliffs, whether ready to lead or just stoked to follow, and learn the technical skills and components for traditional climbing! We’ll cover the essentials like learning how to place stoppers and cams, and we’ll also have candid conversations about risk and how to manage it when the variables start to add up. Our instructors will provide low-risk environments for practice and review the skills you need to continue your practice after the course. Maybe we’ll even convince you that trad can be less scary than sport climbing! . FLASH FOXY MINI FEST May 15-17, 2026 Red River Gorge, KY flashfoxy.com/mini-fest-ky . Clinics are reserved for registered festival participants and subject to limited attendance. Clinics are +$125 per day. Registration is required. Clinic registration opens APRIL 17th!!! . 📸 by @catlikeacat @angiful #flashfoxy

The mountains have no fault. They exist as is and adapt as needed, moving and shifting, rumbling and still. . . We choose to exist with these beings. Travel through them to understand their beauty. Our ancestors survived in the harshest conditions and also perished for trying. Some traveled for survival, others to fulfill curiosity. No matter what, we choose to be here now. We all decide to take a risk by existing with these beings. Something so grand that we can’t comprehend but when you’re in it, the clouds clear up. . . My heart pumped with an overwhelming feeling of emotions popping up to the top of the snow shed looking at Castle Peak. What an honor it is to exist in all of what the land has to offer. All the spirits that live on the mountain. All the heaviness that comes with elevation, weather, and past experiences. What a life we get to live by simply existing. I never want to take this for granted ever again. . . 📍Washoe Territory #california #bekind Taken with Powershot S110

I gave myself a goal last year. 13 years ago, I was really into the DJ scene. I received my associates in music technology, but realized school wasn’t for me and I could network my way through the industry instead. DJing was fun for me, but I wanted my friends who were better to have their chance at making people dance. I was close to working with one of my favorite events in NYC until life happened and I fell “in love” with a man 🤮 and was tied down living a life that wasn’t for me. . . Fast forward to 2023 and climbing is a huge part of my life. I start traveling around and realize that there weren’t many DJs playing music that made the people shake. Too many cis het white dudes playing the same shit and only playing for themselves, not to make people dance. I got tired of going to these festivals or events and being disappointed about the quality of connection folks were having on the dance floor. . . I had given up on my dream to play music for people. Imposter syndrome is a dumb bitch and I neglected my musical side for 10 years at that point. One day, I saw a post about another white dude picking up decks and starting his journey to DJing. Another post about the set he played really got under my skin and I thought “Fuck it. If this random dude can pic up decks and play shows, I can do it too.” January 2025 I ordered my first controller and got to it. . . Grateful for friends and orgs that took a chance with me to play not just for fun, but for events like galas and even a wedding!! (Hardest day playing of my life) I look up to my friend @djrod_a who plays a plethora of genres and remixes of nostalgic bangers. He’s taught me that it’s okay to play what people enjoy, and dig deeper with the cuts that people could dance to. I take this into my own mixing and love to curate on the spot instead of planning all of my music for the event. I also love getting playlists from people and mixing my own music to what they want to hear! . . I’d love to play at your next party! A dream of mine is to play more Drum and Bass gigs and booty shaking music from the east coast. Imposter syndrome can eat shit. I’m trying to make the people dance! #dj #queer #liveyourdream
