Jo’s incredible mother Diana Parkes and I have fought tirelessly for 3.5 years to use everything available to ensure Robert Brown’s release would be safe. We have gone from an imminent automatic release to the parole board deciding he must stay behind bars because he is not safe. He must be released at the end of his sentence in 2036 but before then only if he can demonstrate that he no longer presents a risk. That’s massive! And for the first time an authority has confirmed that Jo was a victim of coercive and controlling behaviour. It didn’t have that title then but she knew. And has now been vindicated.
There are way too many people to thank for getting here!! But special mentions have to go to @robert.buckland.qc.mp@alexchalk99@crimeanalyst@laurarichards999@carrielbjohnson@kieran_rumsby@thekirstenwalkom@thesun@thedaily.mail@lbc@nickferrarilbc@skynews@channel4news@telegraph@thetimes@dailymirror@gmb@bbcbreakfast@metro.co.uk@mojgovuk@keirstarmer@victimscommissioner@itvnews@bbcnews
But of course the wonderful, incredible, kind, family, friends, colleagues, and sometimes total strangers, who have supported us unconditionally throughout! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 /news/39072303/killer-robert-brown-loses-bid-for-freedom/
Thinking of you on your birthday as we wait for the result of the parole hearing over the next few days ❤️💔❤️ @redducks64 so many fun times we will never forget xxxx
@melaniestaffparsons were always determined if we were to do the marathon we wanted it to raise huge awareness. We were delighted that BBC Sport decided to follow us and arrange this important interview. Please share so the word gets out and more and more of society today realises the devastating reality of women being killed. And of course this doesn't include the c150 reported last week of women who took their own lives whilst living with abuse.
4 months ago I rocked up at @nxxtstepfitness and said I needed help getting ready for a marathon! @tuckettnick has been incredible and along with @zenasfitness , @themayorofflair81@mandystfc and so many other members I have felt so supported, encouraged, challenged and appreciated in such a short time. Nick, Tara, Zena, Gary and Bryony also made the effort to come to London to watch the Marathon, together with pink capes, well pink everything (!) and a sneaky bottle of prosecco (pink of course!). And on Friday I was presented with a wonderful momento of my run on behalf of the whole gym. Feeling so much ❤️ Thank you so so much for being amazing! 🙏 🥰
So proud of what @melaniestaffparsons and I achieved at the London Marathon despite my injury, and in fact all of Team Refuge who between them raised over £110k and lots and lots of awareness. But running a marathon is a lot like childbirth including the amnesia of the whole thing a few days into recovery. So what do you reckon - do I apply to do it again in 2027? 😳😳😳🤔🤔🤔 @refugecharity@londonmarathon
We did manage to get some great coverage on the bbc which is so important if we are to change the narrative. Are you prepared to tolerate 110 women being killed every year by violent men? /page/hetti-barkworth-nanton-2
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your support, not what we hoped for but we finished and it took real great and resilience to do that! /page/hetti-barkworth-nanton-2
Let’s keep talking about the butterflies - 110 women last year is 110 too much!!!! @refugecharity
