We chat our big book picks for the second half of 2026 and JP makes a bold Booker Prize prediction. Listen to our bonus ep now on Apple or Spotify 📚🎧
P.S. We know this episode sounds like it was recorded in a cave but we don’t know why (although interestingly, the sound issue coincides with JP debuting his new jacket 🤔)
MEET THE READER ⬇️
Ant is the co-founder and creative partner of award-winning Sydney-based independent creative agency Cocogun. He’s also a celebrated artist combining the poignant, provocative and puerile under the @rubbishfantastic banner (note: the terms ‘celebrated’ and ‘artist’ are being used extremely loosely here). Outside of advertising and art, he’s a massive book fiend and the founder of the LinkedIn Literary Salon. This playground of literary discourse and cerebral merriment is bringing some much-needed intelligence, insight and humanity to a platform over-run by corporate waffle about AI automation, data-driven predictive analytics and mid-funnel content strategy. So if you’re reading this, you’ll enjoy his page on LI.
HE READ 📚
All Fours by Miranda July. Ant says: This book has had an epic and profound impact on my life. It’s about a woman experiencing perimenopause, and ostensibly for women who are/have/will one day go through that experience. BUT…the way I read it was more universally human, with a broader question at its core: in the face of physical change, familial expectations, professional obligations and existential crises…what should/might/can the second half of your life be?
The narrator goes on an incredible journey of self-discovery built on art, sexuality, wild, erotic dance, and experimental interior design. Along the way, she goes THERE. Making many seemingly self-sabotaging WTF?! decisions, but her take is that “You had to withstand a profound sense of wrongness if you ever wanted to get somewhere new.” And, going back to the book’s main theme, there’s a key thought that comes to her: “Maybe the road split between: a life spent longing vs. a life that was continually surprising.” In short - this thrilling, transgressive book encourages you to embrace the incredible freedom and possibility of being alive! 😃😮
