In February of 2026 Zheng Hao and Joseph Baldwin found themselves stranded on desert islands.
Two separate islands. They could see each other, they waved! But any attempts at swimming were disastrous. They could not meet.
They were able to fashion crude fishing apparatus from the detritus on their respective islands.
They cast their nets within the sea of automatically uploaded YouTube videos
Messages in bottles were exchanged, as regards to the ‘rules’
They (the rules) quickly became very complex. Addendums upon addendums, footnotes within footnotes, recursively.
All of this was not really relevant as a cosmic alignment was in place, a knotting of astral umbilici. Symbiosis.
No processing or effects were used in these recordings.

Four blind collages forms of different youtube videos, where Hao and Joseph row dices on four numbers to type into the search boxes. They fish for videos and align them in audacity and ableton, in the evening and in the morning. No other effects or processing, only symbiosis.

郑好（Zheng Hao), born in Wuhan; lives in London. Mostly uses electronics for solo and group improvisation, while other times also makes computer dance music. Enjoys gritty and gnarly textures as well as delicate, amorphous qualities in different sound and space.
Hello Spiral is the project of London-based artist Joseph Tony Baldwin. His releases for labels such as Chocolate Monk, Kirigirisu Recordings, Leaf /// Wave Sound and Discreet Archive showcase work rooted in improvisation, assembled from a motley array of materials—an inventory that grows or contracts depending on the occasion—yet always guided by a singular sense of focus, exploratory approach and irreverent methodologies.

Hello Spiral returns to Discreet Archive with a second exploration of the same North London building. This time the gaze turns inward. Where the previous record looked out from the balcony, these four recordings trace the arteries of shared living: hallways where carpet softens sound, lifts drift in slow repeating cycles, and the building breathes.
Captured in situ on the iPhone voice memo app, each piece unfolds over eleven minutes, without intervention (save for Joe's finger tapping). Less scenic than the outside world yet rich with unnoticed detail, these spaces become instruments. Mechanical rhythms, coded access points, passing footsteps and low-frequency residues of neighbouring lives gather into internal weather.
Moving between floors in the early hours, Joe approaches listening as endurance and defamiliarization, sharpening attention while withholding narrative. If the balcony marked an opening chapter, these recordings feel like a hinge point, suspended between exposure and whatever comes next.

Hello Spiral returns today with a new release, available now as a limited cassette pre release.
This edition is limited to 50 copies. One track is available to stream today, with the full album releasing next Friday.
Recorded entirely inside the hallways of the North London housing complex where he lives, these four pieces were captured in situ using only an iPhone voice memo app. Each recording lasts exactly eleven minutes. No edits, no staging.
Moving inward from the balcony recordings of the previous album, this work listens to the building itself. Carpeted corridors, fire doors, elevators, ventilation, distant neighbours. Transitional spaces designed to be passed through become the primary instrument. Mechanical rhythms, absorbed frequencies, and low level human traces combine into something quietly unstable, a kind of internal weather.
This record may function as a middle chapter in a larger arc. A hinge point between exposure and whatever follows. It rewards repeated listening, not for resolution, but for the subtle shifts that emerge when familiar architecture is treated as sound.
