Alhamdullilah, in October we raised a healthy $13,474 in Mutual Aid funds for Sudan.
These photos were taken @hellojackiedixon and graphics by @1.mmke
Many of the women photographed requested emergency relief of medical aid. Some people have lost their entire families and literal limbs without recieving any care beyond absolute basic food and water.
There will be more stories to come, for now please comment and share this post so we can get make funding there ASAP.
Here's the breakdown of last month's fund-raising.
77 x $2-10 donations
105 x $15-50 donations
23 x $60-150 donations
5 x $175-$375 donations
1 x $500 individual donation
1 x $1500 from Mutual Aid Mates
1 x $2000 from Mutual Aid Mates again
1 x $800 donation from Hillfolk Mutual Aid fundraiser
1 x $252 remainder funds from Sawt Al Sudan Fundraiser
$600 in donations via Ornella's birthday fundraiser (mostly via PayPal from the UK).
We really came through this month, last year's October funds were only $2.5K so I'm actually gob-smacked on what we can do this year. It means there is growth and y'all had it in you all along to show up.
Many people still quietly don't want to donate a cent and it's frankly becoming cringe at this point, these people need to question their allegiance to individualism/white supremacy because you keep outing yourself as nothing but performative every month.
I'm noticing an increase in “male” names donating, but it's only marginal, meanwhile some femmes and NB people are donating twice in one month. Wild.
Last month's as well as this month's funds are being prioritised towards aiding communities escaping the atrocities in El-Fashir and “Nas Darfur” a my mum wood day “the people of Darfur”.
Many families are still on the brink of starving to death and this is their only lifeline. If you haven't contributed yet, I'm sure you can spare $10.
We will not stop insha'Allah.
Much love,
Bakri
Streets of Baku, Azerbaijan.
One of the most welcoming cities, where an afternoon walk down an alleyway will result in an invitation inside for tea. So much of the historical architecture remains intact and in use within the old city, now occupied with tea shops or rug and antique stores.

Khinaliq — a 5,000-year-old village tucked high in the Caucasus Mountains and one of the most remote towns in Europe. 🏔️ Getting here was an adventure in itself: a long bus ride followed by a winding drive through rugged mountain roads with a local driver.
At 2,300m above sea level (around the height of Mount Kosciuszko), it’s also one of the highest continuously inhabited villages in the world. According to local legend, this is where Noah’s Ark landed, and many here believe they are descendants of Noah himself.
The people speak Khinalug — a language so unique it’s unrelated to any other known tongue — but their warmth made it easy to connect. Some kids even knew about Sydney, and one farmer proudly showed me his goat that travels with him, sleeping in a bag attached to his horse’s saddle.
Also thank you @shabnamsabirli for inspiring the soundtrack to my time here ♥️

Some snippets from our last few weeks in Laos 🇱🇦
An incredibly beautiful country that has been hit hard recently with a financial crisis and national fuel shortage, the bittersweet lack of tourism resulting in a very different experience to Will’s childhood memories.
We feel very lucky to be able to be here, Will reuniting with his dad for the first time since the pandemic began and my first time visiting Laos. The Mekong holds a very special place in my heart having grown up around it and being raised with the Cambodian folklore, though I’ve never seen it as healthy and full as it is upstream here, which was incredibly heartwarming to experience. 💙

Music video for UNTITLED001 screening tomorrow, the 12th of May at Miscellania.
“The song that catalyzed this project was born out of Jadu’s experience of moving between the community she was born into and the community she has chosen. It explores navigating these seemingly disparate worlds and the tension that arises from desiring acceptance from both. Drawing on these concepts, the film unpacks how individuals perceive and change themselves based on real and imagined judgment from others. This negotiation is depicted through three thematic sections, which will be embodied on the runway: Vulnerability, Alienation & Dominance.”
I’m very excited to share a project I’ve spent the last few months working on with an incredible group of people.
Here is the trailer for my short-film, “I AM NOT A VIRUS” which will be screened at ACMI cinemas on the 4th of May. “A short-film exploring identity in the face of crisis, discussing pandemic related racism and presenting a heartfelt counter-narrative from three young Asian Australians with strong ties to their community; @elleshimada , a Japanese violinist, Ngoc Tran, business owner of @baongocbrunswick , and Cr Anthony Tran, Australia’s youngest Mayor.”
Words can’t express how grateful I am to these three incredible humans and their generosity in sharing their stories and reflections on a deeply personal topic, and I couldn’t have asked for a better crew of people that helped me pull this all together!
These sand dunes and desert plains are remnants of huge lakes and rivers from the last ice age.
One of the earliest places of human inhabitation long before that too. It was such an incredible experience to be able to visit.

Headshots for the wonderful @dilettalegowo 🧡
We took a stroll around our neighbourhood, and thanks to lockdown Deeds knew all the best spots.
Her creativity and kindness always inspire me, so it was beautiful to try to capture her energy in an image!
Speak in Truth music video is out now!! 🎊
Here are some BTS images from the shoot, fulfilling all my pastel dreams. Incredibly talented team to work with, so happy this film (and track!) is now out in the world.
