During the 2025 Antwerp Fashion Awards, @gruppocinquefabrics  chose @lucas_lopes_barcellos  to provide their full support for the sourcing and development of innovative, premium-quality textiles. Gruppocinque awarded the 2BA student at @antwerpfashionofficial whose work demonstrates exceptional attention to material quality and research, aligning with the company’s commitment to sustainability, technical innovation, and visionary thinking. Over the past weeks, Lucas has been working on his own fabric recipes: a burn-out technique on cotton and nylon — a twist on Como’s devoré tradition — dyed with direct and reactive colors, mixing recipes from scratch, selecting from an archive of printing screens and modifying them to follow his graphic inspirations. The project was facilitated by @helloclutter , who works closely with Gruppocinque to build relationships between young designers and the Italian textile industry. In the coming months, Lucas and other designers from Antwerp and abroad will be coming to Milan to work in the spaces of UPP++ER. Follow along — we can’t wait to see the finished collection!

We’re looking for seamstresses, pattern makers, or those with both skills, aged 22 to 35. Recent graduates from technical or specialized institutes, trained in ateliers, or with experience gained in the field. We’re not interested in a long resume: we’re interested in how you work and why you want to do it with us. Those who join UPPER join a group. Young professionals who exchange ideas, co-design, and continue to collaborate on future creative and research projects. The first project we’ll be developing is an urban and sportswear capsule collection: trench coats, padded bomber jackets, pants, dresses, and shirts—in technical and contemporary fabrics. But this call isn’t just for a temporary assignment: it’s to create a community of practice that can advance many future projects. Are you interested? SEI INTERESSATA/O? INVIACI LA TUA CANDIDATURA!

Forget the moodboard. Your method is your identity. With UPP++ER we bring knowledge, practice and inspiration — through workshops and installations built around the way you make. 3 approaches. 3 young designers. 3 reasons to go deeper. Subtraction Cutting — space carved from subtraction. With @marco.triggiani Patchwork — meaning assembled piece by piece. With @leonardo_vignoli Flou — construction that follows the body. With Sian Schell Which one speaks to your process? Which skill do you want to own next? Tell us in the comments — and tag the designer friend you'd bring to the workshop. ——— Dimentica la moodboard! Where We Grow. Milan has archives, factories, collectives, sourcing spots most people walk past every day, without knowing. We want to change that! This is a series we’re building for anyone who wants to keep growing — with school, after school, outside of it. The idea is simple: stop working only from images, start working from things you can touch. Build a small material library. Find your people. Most of it costs nothing — it’s about knowing where to look. We’re starting with @archivio.lacouture . All April, they’re hosting a temporary installation around three of their strongest material categories: lace, denim, workwear. Come in, handle the pieces, talk to the people behind them. What about you — do materials make it into your moodboards, or do you always start from images? And what’s your favourite material to work with? Do you know where it actually comes from? ITA Where We Grow.

We are building a space to talk about co-design practices, on how networks are built, on what fuels autonomous creative work. In this first three-weeks long installation, we are showcasing the work of 16 young creatives from @HEADfashiondesign , generated through a dynamic collaboration with @TheCube and @Gruppocinque . Around the showcase of these garments, from March 9th to March 27th, we’ll be hosting open studios, school visits, focus groups with designers and experts, and a styling workshop. All free. Open daily on appointment. The goal: connect designers locally and internationally, build relationships with industry, and bring people together around making. All this was made possible by @circolissimo and @comune_milano @lascuoladeiquartieri , with the added support of @archivio.lacouture 📍 Via Lulli 28, 20131 Milan 🕐 Monday to Friday, 10–18h 📅 Follow @circolissimo for the full calendar of activities. Tutto gratuito. Aperto tutti i giorni su appuntamento.

Next week in Milan. 16 young designers, 3 places — Geneva, Como, San Giovanni Valdarno — one co-design project. In partnership with @headfashiondesign @thecubearchive and @gruppocinquefabrics , coordinated by @helloclutter , guided by @johanneswinfriedegler @thaismontessoribrandao @mariushordijk @corinnachiassai @alessandroleri Get to know these designers and their unique pieces at UPP++ER: the space we are building in the center of Milan to open up conversations on co-design practices, on how networks are built, on what fuels autonomous creative work. Thanks to @circolissimo and @comune_milano / @lascuoladeiquartieri — In Group 6, @dear.maia and @yunyue_wang reinterpreted a classic bomber—a garment originally worn by men and aviators—into an organic shape inspired by the feminine body and movements of torsion. They used lightweight SPACE 20 CDX, 100% nylon doubled and padded with single-layer wadding, using pintucks to achieve ribbed cuffs and waistband while creating airy ruffles. In Group 7, @youmes2s2 and @ujeel1 analyzed a vintage biker jacket made not in leather but in sturdy cotton canvas, reinforced with topstitched shoulder patches and synched at the waist to prevent air from entering. They gave more space to airiness and the reinforced silhouette, enhancing shoulders, elbows, and the back. Without using interfacing or padding, they worked with lightweight nylon SPACE 50 CDX for both lining and exterior, reinforcing key areas of the bodice with poly duchesse BURRASCA 334 WRF. The biker is carefully finished with zippers and topstitching, creating an elegant silhouette that recalls historical postures and doublets.

From garment to concept, from Geneva to Milan Come touch the garments, follow the process, and see the work of 16 students from the MA1 at @headfashiondesign — developed in collaboration with The Cube Archive and Gruppocinque fabrics. The installation is part of UPP++ER, a space to disseminate collaborative practices created by @helloclutter and @circolissimo . Around the showcase of these garments, from March 9th to March 27th, we'll be hosting open studios, school visits, focus groups with designers and experts, and a styling workshop. All free. Open daily on appointment. The goal: connect designers locally and internationally, build relationships with industry, and bring people together around making. 📍 Via Lulli 28, 20131 Milan 🕐 Monday to Friday, 10–18h 📅 Follow @circolissimo for the full calendar of activities. Thank you @lutz_huelle_paris @johanneswinfriedegler @thaismontessoribrandao and all contributors and participants! Pictured: @zhexuan___hu @antoinelhostis and @yifei.w.u examined a short trench coat in coated cotton with turtle neck from an unknown designer in the 1980s—a period of experimentation with shoulder silhouettes and new materials. The group retained the jacket's severe and precise shoulder and sleeve, the lines of the pockets and the seaming, but reinterpreted it in thin, crispy lightweight taffeta. They doubled the fabric instead of using adhesives and lined it with matelassé to provide sturdiness while keeping comfort inside. The bottom of the jacket is elongated into an asymmetric ruffled skirt, using the crispiness of the material to create small detailed pleats, while 3D-printed jewelry and buttons cast in silver complete the look, aimed to convey dreaminess and ballet-like movement.
