When Claire Teo (@helloclaireteo ) steps onto a stage, she experiences it differently from most performers. Diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at four, the actor, singer and writer navigates the world through sound, texture and instinct. This shape the way she works. “I listen with my whole body,” she says. “Every shift in the air, every texture, every sound, even silence, carries information.”

🥳We are thrilled to bring you the final iteration of “Performing Normal” at @singaporeartmuseum and what better way to wrap our year long series with a party 🎉 Register at the link in bio ⬆️
[SAM Art Dose] Performing Normal: The Usual Party
29 March 2025
3pm - 5.30pm
Level 1, Engine Room
What’s the vibe? Is there a dress code? Who else is invited?
“The Usual Party” is a participatory performance that highlights how environments and systems can simultaneously include and exclude different individuals. It addresses the ways in which personal needs for safety and belonging can both clash and be met. Through mingling, party games, and an eclectic musical excursion led by two first-time party hosts, participants are invited to reflect on what it means to truly listen to and see one another beyond stereotypes and preconceived notions.
Performed by Germaine Goh and Jaspreet Kaur Sekhon, two neurodivergent artists, and conceptualized by a collective of interdisciplinary artists, this work draws from their lived experiences of disability. It explores the tension between self-reliance and community, confronting societal notions of normalcy and inclusion. As the performance unfolds, the party becomes a potential space for connection, vulnerability, and the courage to embrace authenticity.

Claire Teo says that she has found her voice in theater. She is a performer, arts educator and a social work consultant — and she is blind.
Claire was the first visually impaired person to graduate from Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore. Since then, she has celebrated many successes. But her biggest desire is for society to realize disabled people are not a burden but an opportunity for change. #HER5
“Through The Looking Glass Performance”
that happened on 17–18 Jan
at The Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium Foyer in National Gallery Singapore
This show was a truly eye-opening experience for me! Unlike typical shows, it pushes the boundaries of visual storytelling and narrative techniques, going beyond just acting. Even with my eyes closed, I could still feel the depth of the story through the words spoken by the actors and narrators.
Huge thanks to @helloclaireteo and the team for delivering such a memorable show! Excited to see more productions with this unique perspective in the future! 👏✨
A moving performance at the National Gallery. I could not help but cry.
Congrats to @jennyleyble and her fellow artists. Thank you @helloclaireteo and @art.dis.singapore for empowering people with disabilities or suffering from a lack of visibility.
« Do you see me ? » at the Light to Night 2025.

• Artist Spotlight: Claire Teo
for “Through The Looking Glass” by Claire Teo @helloclaireteo
As a visually impaired artist, Claire Teo offers a unique perspective on how she sees the world through her immersive, sensorial, acccesible work. With “Through The Looking Glass”, she invites audiences to step into her experience, feeling the disorientation of distorted, tunnel-like visions and the fleeting moments of clarity that connect her to the people around her. A collaborative effort with her team, Claire's body of work is deeply rooted in research, dialogue, and a collective desire to amplify the voices of marginalized communities.
🗣️ Hear from artist-educator Claire Teo as she encourages us to engage more thoughtfully with the world around us, with a renewed commitment to listening, seeing, and connecting in ways that are more meaningful and inclusive.

Day 9: Kaohsiung
Pier 2 Arts Centre and Creative Park
Former British Consulate at Towkow
Dome of Light
Last days are hard.
Standing under the vibrant Dome of Light at Formosa Boulevard Station, wandering through Pier 2 Arts Centre, and soaking in the views at the Former British Consulate, I couldn’t shake the ache of leaving. The thought of returning to reality was.... painful.
But Kaohsiung, with its unforgettable fried chicken chop and crab sticks at the massive Ruifeng Night Market, made my farewell a little sweeter. Having visited Taiwan three times in a year, I’m already planning my next trip. Guess I found my second home.

Day 8: Tainan
Tainan Confucius Temple
Grand Mazu Temple
Hayashi Department Store
Traveling with my three companions, two of whom are Deaf, felt like a stroke of luck I will forever cherish. They took turns painstakingly guiding my hands to feel the aged carvings of temple walls, the imprints on glass windows, and tracing the shapes of beautiful architecture.
In Tainan, time seems to stand still.
The Confucius Temple, Grand Mazu Temple, and Hayashi Department Store whisper stories of the past, making you feel like it’s not 2024 but a moment suspended in history.
In a world obsessed with progress and efficiency, where grief must be healed quickly and life must move on, Tainan allows you to linger and remember what once was.

Day 7: Travelling to Kaohsiung
Taichung Second Market
Osmanthus Alley Artist Village
Lu Kang Old Street
Beigang
Did you know that one egg can hold three distinct flavors—salted egg, century egg, and tea leaf egg? Mind blown.
Taiwan is a country that fiercely preserves its culture and heritage. Walking through the little old streets of places like Osmanthus Alley and Lukang Old Street, I encountered seniors running stalls, speaking only Taiwanese, and sharing the most authentic, delicious, and unique foods I’ve ever tasted.
These streets weren’t just markets; they were living museums, filled with flavors and stories you can’t find anywhere else.
