From @hellfireproduction , written by @iammichaelhead , directed by @frankharper454 and starring Michael and Frank comes A meeting Across The River.
It's important to me that I point out that honesty in my reviews is integral to the way I write. I say this because I was given this film to watch by Michael, someone I have a great respect for, who also wrote, and starred in, this film. That being said here are my thoughts:
I haven't been this entertained by such a simple film in a really long time. I was chortling all the way through at some of the funniest dialogue that I have heard in a while, and in a film about two cockney hitmen waiting to carry out a hit that is an unexpected bonus.
This film has been described as an homage to Harold Pinter, and after watching it I totally see why. If someone said this was an adaptation of an existing stage play I'd believe them. I could easily see this being done on stage, and being thoroughly enjoyed by most audiences. I'd for sure go watch it.
It's a low budget film, around £14,000, and if it proves one thing it proves that you don't need a huge budget, massive crew or insane effects to make an engaging, entertaining movie. This is a simple tale of two guys discussing life while planning a death, and it works because it's low budget. It feels more real than it otherwise would.
Michael and Frank bounce off each other wonderfully and the chemistry between them legitimately makes them feel like long time friends. They are really different to each other, with attitudes on certain things clashing, and yet they are the same.....the very essence of two sides of the same coin. The banter between them is refreshing yet old fashioned, mixing some old attitudes with understanding of more modern moral reasoning. It's written, and directed, really well. Frank has made the most of the funds available to him as director, and created an engaging slice of cinematic entertainment.
Overall? I didn't know what to expect and finished it being thoroughly entertained. Did I see the ending coming? Maybe, but it didn't take anything away from the film. 3.5/5 and a hearty recommendation to check it out when you can. #london #cockney #hitmen
