We found ourselves present for a rare and gentle alignment of time: Jon Batiste performing at Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday party, offering “When You’re Smiling” to a quiet circle of family and friends. In this moment, the song didn’t just play — it transcended. Dick and his wife Arlene received it not as performance, but as feeling, as memory unfolding in real time. Around them, generations of the Van Dyke family cheered, voices and hands joining in, the moment glowing softly to celebrate 100 years of a national treasure and a beautiful human being.

Happy Halloween! Have you checked out our Ghostwood Manor documentary yet? It dives deep into how this incredible Pasadena maze was created. The link to this documentary (and the one on the Vintage Synthesizer Museum) are in our profile.
The Ghostwood Manor is also open on selected nights this weekend. Check them out if you are in the area!
In this second episode of Helium Vision, we invite you into a world that hums with the strange and the beautiful—the Vintage Synthesizer Museum (VSM). Founded in 2013 by the avid synthesizer historian Lance Hill, this “living museum” exists in a space where the past and present come together to offer an immersive experience into the magical world of sound. It’s not just a museum—it’s a place where visitors and artists can disappear into their work, perform in a unique atmosphere, or learn the art of synthesis.
Initially opening its doors in Oakland the VSM is now nestled in the heart of Los Angeles, this space has since witnessed the presence of many modern visionaries—Damon Albarn, Egyptian Lover and Neurosis, to name a few—each leaving behind their own distinctive imprints.
Come with us, as we step into the otherworldly corners of the Vintage Synthesizer Museum and uncover the tales of the instruments that dwell within.

In this inaugural episode of Helium Vision, we invite
you to drift to the bottom of the ocean where one of
Pasadena’s greatest haunted houses dwells among
the monsters of the deep….in a place
named Ghostwood Manor.
Conceived in 2020 by Stephen Taylor — a resident of
Pasadena
— this homemade haunt emerges once a
year to the delight of everyone from neighbors to the
most seasoned haunters. Ghostwood Manor exists at
the threshold between the worlds of haunted houses
and elaborate Halloween displays, creating an
entirely new experience of spectral fantasy
constructed within the space of a driveway.
In this episode, we step behind the curtain as
Stephen Taylor reveals the making of The Wreck of
the Crimson Dagger
— a life-size, sunken pirate ship
maze that he built by hand. Enter the haunted
shipwreck as it rests at the bottom of the Caribbean
Sea beneath the moonlit tides, forgotten by time,
haunted by the ghosts of sailors whose names have
long since drifted away into the whispers of the
ocean’s currents.
