Young people facing cancer need tailored and age-appropriate support, in a comfortable and encouraging setting.
@teenage_cancer provide specialist nursing care and support, and fund hospital units for teenagers and young adults in NHS cancer centres across the UK.
2026 marks 10 years since I was first diagnosed with cancer. After a traumatic and complicated diagnosis pathway, I arrived at the Bristol TCT unit and was met with an overwhelming feeling that perhaps everything could be alright after all. Cancer treatment is tough at any age, but not being shoe-horned into a paediatric or mostly-OAP ward makes a difficult experience overwhelmingly better. Ensuite rooms, a kitchen, an open space to spend long days with visitors — it makes a world of difference.
I’ve been lucky to have a Teenage Cancer Trust unit so close to home, but many travel great distances to be treated in a TCT unit, and some don’t have access to them at all. I can’t imagine having gone through treatment without my TCT nurses or the ward.
I’m so proud and grateful for Em and La doing this mega challenge 💞 any donations to their pages in my bio are very greatly appreciated. TCT receive no government or NHS funding and rely purely on fundraising and donations.
The marathon is particularly poignant as around the time that the girls had their places confirmed last summer, I was, completely out of the blue, diagnosed with a relapse. TCT have continued to support my family and I through it all, including for some in-patient stays back on the ward for chemo during the second half of last year.
Shout out to the best friends and family in the world, who have gone above and beyond to help me through it all 💞 there aren’t enough words to say how much I love you! Thanks to them, my incredible doctors, and TCT, even with some blips along the way, I get to live the life that 17 year old me used to sit on the ward dreaming about. What a feeling that is, a whole decade on ⭐️🥲🙂↕️
