painting pictures on small canvases, and photographing myself in front of them, in hopes that the artificial intelligence powered algorithm recognizes the features and spacing of a human face, prioritizes my content, and delivers it to you, the people who had decided to follow me, at some point however long ago. the idea is that you get to see what you signed up to see, from who you signed up to see it from. we’ll see if it works this time!

I started using shattered eyes on my girls as a way of trying to convey having seen something traumatic that changes you for life after reading somewhere that the origin story of why kermit the frog has lines through his pupils is that he was born without them, but at a young age he became aware of the fact that some people actually eat frogs, and at that moment he was instantly traumatized and his pupils were then crossed out to sort of visually symbolize that painful knowledge that changes the way you see the world forever. I loved this storytelling device, one’s eyes actually being visually altered by some unknown force, which is bizarre and sad on many levels, so much, and decided to use it in my own way which I’ve now been doing for years. However, I have tried to look up that story a million times and can’t find it anywhere at all, so it seems like I may have made this whole thing up.

unfortunately almost all of the paintings i planned to show have been stuck in mexican customs for a week with no sign of moving anytime soon 😭 but we do thankfully have 2 new paintings of mine we brought on the plane with us, so please come see those and give me a hug cuz i’m on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster right now!

thanks to all who came out to see my solo presentation “touch-me-not” in the @95gallon can last night! it’s on view today and tomorrow inside @ahugfromtheartworld 515 w 19th street. 95 gallon is a gallery inside a trash can that moves around the city; right now it’s inside another gallery staying warm. there’s a couple shows on view inside the building as well including a spencer’s gifts themed group show also curated by 95 gallon; my show is inside the trash can itself when you first walk in 🗑️ here’s some pics of the work and the opening.
