All my gratitude to the brilliant Director and Curator, Dr. Matthias Harder, for the contribution of his essay in ESCAPE and for making my art-nerd wish a reality. To be associated in anyway with Helmut Newton, and this glorious museum is a dream come true. Helmut Newton, a long time hero of mine, shattered societal norms and revolutionized female emancipation through his photography. His nudes and portraits exude strength, danger, and boldness, liberating femininity from preconceived notions. Newton fearlessly pushed the boundaries of social acceptability, inviting us to explore power, sexuality and gender roles. His work continues to captivate and inspire me, as he fearlessly explores the complexities of identity, desire, and human connection. Through his lens, he revealed a world of unapologetic confidence and provocative beauty. In addition to the honor of ESCAPE showing and selling in the bookstore, Matthias generously gave us a behind-the-scenes viewing of their new exhibition, celebrating the work of June Newton. He also provided an unforgettable personal tour of the inner sanctum of the museum, where we immersed ourselves in rare Newton photographs. As we pored over the breathtaking artwork, Matthias hospitably made us cappuccinos creating a truly memorable experience. To top it off, he generously gifted me with some special Newton books. Having ESCAPE available in the esteemed Bookstore Walther König within the Helmut Newton Museum is an incredible privilege. Words feel insufficient in expressing the impact Kelly Kimball had on my life and the profound loss I feel. Her artistry, wisdom, and unwavering support as a human, friend and acting teacher were unparalleled. She touched the lives of countless many. Kelly’s teachings were a revelation, urging us to embrace audacity and boldness, to trust our instincts, and to cast off the weight of shame that hinders our creative expression. She had an extraordinary ability to dive deep into the human experience. Her teaching was an alchemical process, transforming raw potential into refined brilliance. Perhaps most surprisingly, even in the face of cancer, she taught me the power of humor and the healing catharsis of laughter. To her beloved family, friends and the entire @kimball_studio community, my deepest condolences go out to you. May we find solace in shared memories, carrying Kelly’s artistic spirit within us, supporting one another, pursuing our artistic passions, and embracing the bonds that connect us. Love and comfort to you all. ❤️ Eternally grateful to you Kelly. I love you forever.
