Inspired by the likes of Aphex Twin, Mark Farina, Roni Size, 90s Goa trance, and South Asian underground legends like Talvin Singh, Nitin Sawhney, State of Bengal, and Karsh Kale, Shab.D has been an avid collector and deep listener of global sounds for most of his life. In 2023, a one-day DJ course introduced him to a community of like-minded artists eager to share music and energy on the dancefloor. Since then, he’s been on a mission to merge organizing, activism, community, and South Asian sound through his events. His primary effort is The People’s House, a project with two formats: free-entry house, UKG, and bass parties at Vagabond featuring top local DJs headlining—including resident DJ Koh (618, HDF)—and ticketed events at 618 DC that raise funds for mission-driven organizations and community programming. People’s House has hosted the likes of Introspekt, Baalti, Nabiha Iqbal, and Armana Khan. In August 29th 2025, they host the trailblazing Yung Singh.
