We’ve been working with Kate from
@pennysage on her new shop interior. The space is smaller than her last one, so the focus was on fitting everything in comfortably, reusing what we could, and keeping costs down.
It’s still not fully finished, but the main elements are in. We reused pieces from the previous shop, worked around the existing brick, ceiling and glass that we were told could not be touched, and introduced a deep blue inspired by Eileen Grays E1027 (last couple pics) to anchor the space & help Kate’s clothes colours stand out, particularly with contrasting colours she often uses like warm reds, yellows, browns, oranges & pinks.
We researched flattering lighting for the changing rooms and ideal rack heights while in Japan, hunted for affordable materials, and found offcuts and seconds wherever possible including offcut seconds of NZ-made
@bremworth wool carpet for a fifth of the usual price. The curtain rails, long shelf, timber trims, mirrors and curtains were all made or adapted using what Kate already had or we could find and make work.
We really enjoyed working with everyone involved
@genevieve__black @davidjoelharris @pacificstainlessnz @super_standard_co @sure.shot and others. It was a positive & fun process bringing it together with local skills and materials and people that wanted to support
@pennysage . We hoped to create a space that suits the world Kate has made with
@pennysage which we think feels thoughtful, friendly, small scale, resourceful and local.
