KANEEZ- A shoot very close to our hearts. An editorial we did for the love of a mother who is also a queen in every sense. Inspired by Mehr Ali’s Kashmiri heritage, the shoot is a love letter to his mother and the home that was her kingdom. We are this and much more. Humanity is this and much more. Love is love. The worlds within our world are many. The path to love are many. You can pick whatever you like. “Chaahaton ke bhi raste kai, Chun lo koi. “ Thank you for being a part of the worlds that exist in Pakistan. These are not all but a few; on the road of love and empathy let’s discover and embrace. We are much more than what we believe or are made to believe. The beauty from the south to the north, west to the east, the known the unknown the heard the unheard. I am perhaps not making sense but thank you from the depth of our heart, thank you and love you.

Too overwhelmed to even string words together about this creatively satisfying project. I think I’m still in daze of what we ended up achieving. This was the first song I signed up for @coke_studio . I will never forget that Initial call with @kamalkay where he introduced me to his brilliant idea about this entire song and the visual aesthetic he hoped to achieve. I was hooked and my tired soul just got a new fire. the storytelling power of @alisethiofficial and his voice coupled with the stunning vocals of @shaegilll narrated a story that became easy for all of us to tell. Aided by the maestro’s @zulfiqarjkhan ‘a powerful production of the music along with with genius that is @abdullah.s.siddiqui , the song was the most beautiful canvas with hidden stories to tell. The pre production on this one for @coke_studio was the longest and also the most satisfying. Each look, each corner was meticulously planned with each individual and their wardrobe and styling and their environment designed to utmost detail. (Will be sharing about it all in individual posts… because I’m super extra haha) @fatimabutt.11 and @saimabargfrede are the fairy godmothers each production designer needs. Utmost love snd respect for them always. Our work would never have looked this beautiful if it wasn’t for the cinematographer extradonaire @s.ahsanraza who made eveything look a million times better. Even taking out these pictures I was unable to believe tht we did it! 😭❤️ @sumaiyasaiyed @lujane.pagganwala @amina_katel47 ❤️ @shahrukhfepo you activate my life. @farihaafzalkhan @komal_ahmad honestly the best ADs I have had the pleasure of working with , these girls were still running post 24 hours. @maham_bano is the person behind each and every talent you see in the video. @zc.22112 you have the most infectious of personalities and the loveliest of hearts. I probably don’t make any sense but what I am trying to say is that this was such a beautiful collaborative team effort, that it moves my heart and makes me emotional. Also the power of females on team (thank you @kamalkay ❤️)

Directed and art directed this crazy one take video for @sapphirepakistan . It was 40 degrees and we had so many crazy ideas… @kulsoom_javed and I had this dream for some time to create a one take video that showcased our culture with a spin. It was only possible in this heat because everyone was just brilliant . From the rehearsals @noctafilms knew how to help us with each movement … the models @aqsashahh @nimrajacob2.0 @richincolourandlife were such good sport. They learnt their cues in seconds and didn’t care the heat was almost blinding . @lettersofjune learnt to drive a rickshaw and then run and go take her next position before the camera reached her. Each department worked like a well oiled machines …. All the cogs moving seamlessly to make this happen. @meheksaeed who always flawlessly mixes modern desi with her signature minimal maximalism. And Ofcourse @naveed.amjad who always Always has the best ideas , best views and the iconic naveed amjad eye of looking at mundane and making it magical . A day in Faisalabad for my “pehla” pyaar wearing my @doosrapyar . Eid always used to be at my grandmother’s house. We would wake up early morning and go for Numaz with my cousins… half asleep… cranky… but excited … excited to come back and get eidi from dadi ami and have kheer made by Chachi and mama. Then we would compare our money and all us cousins would go to a store nearby to have sweets . Later in the day we would put up a show… using bedsheets thrown from a rooftop to hang like a curtain. The veranda below was the stage. Our dada’s trophies were our Oscar awards. Today I was there but the house was different. Still full of love but the nostalgia of it all was heavy. Beautiful but heavy. We talked about MCT oil and Mughal history. Pudding was made by Chachi and strawberry desert by my cousin’s wife. The kids called me uncle and one showed me his police car. In the drawing room under a pearl shell Chandlier hung a painting my dadi had asked me to give her… an image of the calligraphers bazar of wazir khan mosque . She is long gone but her love was in each corner of this beloved house. Eid Mubarak Dadi Ami.
