Coachella 2015
I moved to LA in 2010 and got my foot in the door working in the EQ room at MILK, and from there wiggled my way onto set as an assistant. I started doing test shoots with any willing glam assistant I met, which were fun but meant coordinating everyone’s availability, location, etc.
When I was taking these photos at Coachella, I had recently met my wife,
@daniellelevitt , who had freed me from the burden I’d put on myself of producing a whole shoot in order to take a picture of someone. Danielle just took pictures of anyone, anywhere, that she found captivating. It was a revelation for me that I could simply walk up to someone and ask if I could take their photo. It was that easy and of course obvious but I had been operating in a different headspace until then. Danielle opened a door to a different type of photography for me that I happily walked right through.
So when
@shaughn_and_john asked me if I wanted to go to Coachella with them, I jumped at the opportunity. I wandered the festival grounds through the hot afternoons into the cool evenings with an old 35mm Minolta, taking pictures of any stranger who caught my eye. These are some of those photos. Fun to look back after 11 years and see how we have all changed, or maybe haven’t. :)
