We did it, with the extraordinary assistance of my fabulous studio team. I pulled off the construction and installation of Before Dawn.
Iâd love you to see it, the reviews and messages back to me have blown me away. It is having a deep emotional resonance. Entrancing folk, and engaging those unfamiliar with the gallery environment.
Let me take you behind the scenes, into the space where we toiled to bring her to life.
đ
Sky Veilâ, a 15m long curtain divides the space.
She is a three dimensional colour field painting constructed from the blues of used tarpaulins and the earthy colours of vintage hessian sacks and jute rope from India.
She speaks to the Mongolian concepts of the sky god and shamanic rituals, to vulnerability and inate strength. My stitched line travels across the surface as a drawing unevenly following my intuition, the tread becomes a series of marks.
Whilst Sky Veil has been hanging in my studio for some time, installing her saw to her completion. Out of the magic of my studio, a visually rich post industrial space - into the crisp clean space of the Orange Gallery gave me space to really see her.
@aiya.dreaming and I continued working on her, utilising all the spare pieces we had packed. And now she stands; bold, dividing the exhibition, framing key works and inviting exploration
