@bjcolangelo insisted on taking a photo after the luchador movie tonight because it would look cool. And it does.
She also asked what my name would be and when I told her "El T-Girl Tigre" she said she hates me. 💪

Flashback to me shooting some group shots for the retrospective of the 1984 “Angel” movies. With @laridarryn@bjcolangelo@veloci_trap_tor
It was the first time I had ever paid attention to the movie, that I never saw. I went home and finally watched it. Very good movie, especially great seeing old Hollywood. Interestingly enough the same kinda characters still live in Hollywood.
They say "write what you know."
Back in Cleveland, I lived on Detroit Avenue. There was a section of that street, centered around one of the few, true gay bars in the city that was THE most deadly area for trans women in the entire country. That is not hyperbole. Year after year, Cleveland had the highest rate of trans murder per capita and nearly all of them were right down the street from where I lived for a full decade.
That danger was not a secret to people looking for community or work. Someone would crash on your couch or you'd share a weekly dinner with them at the LGBT Center and then... you'd never see them again.
I have been writing some version of this story since 2020 because it matters. I wanted to write about community, unwavering support, and friendship that persists in spite of risks like this. Most of all, I wanted to give the women that the news only acknowledges as "the body of a strangely dressed man" the win that they deserved.
Thank you to @david_lawsonjr and @dark_matter_magazin for putting this in print and allowing me to share this with you all.
I hope you feel something when reading Sunny Side Up. There is more to come from Detroit Avenue.
