this video shows marks harmonicon (lithophone) created especially for @harmonicon_ . the philosophy for the weekend we had last month was, a harmonic, symbiotic gathering much the same as these resonant frequencies of the stones. we were thrilled to hear @spaceshipmark wanted to make one for the event and here we can see a bit more detail, showing the sonorous suspended gneiss stones being struck. furthermore, @resonance_calder has exciting news on the horizon that mark is part of…🪨

hello world, it has taken us quite some time to process just what had happened last weekend. Our hearts were touched by the beauty of all the artists, speakers and engagement by attendees alike. So many thanks are due to helpers, workers, lovers, friends, and comrades. Many magical moments were felt, such as walking up to the folk fire pit in the graveyard, which developed into an open forum for magic. For all of us we felt we really learnt so much. We hope to post images soon and a video in time as a memory of our time at the Unitarian church💕📷 Some of you may wonder… the moving quote is from John Fawcett (of hebden bridge), the naming of a favourite hymn is said to have been written in 1772, to commemorate the determination of its author to remain with his attached people at Wainsgate chapel… The farewell sermon was preached, the wagons were loaded, when love and tears prevailed, and Dr. Fawcett sacrificed the attraction of a London pulpit to the affection of his community ❤️

not too long now until we begin our harmonicon… In late additional fashion, although with upmost positivity, we have had to make a few changes after unfortunately losing a couple of speakers… professor of music and head of department of media, humanities and the arts at huddersfield university, prof rupert till is joining our line up for the weekend! 🗿 his research into sound mapping caves and henges has created an exciting body of work and we are truly honoured to have him with us, we feel his work really resonants with the theme of our harmonic gathering! ‘archeoaccoustics’ is a sonically based analysis that can reveal details of ancient environments and practices. oh, and we should also mention he is a professor of ambient techno too. prof rupert till will be talking to the congregation, sunday at 11.11 tod based spaceship mark will complete a second set for us now on the saturday at 4.30pm as well as playing on sunday, firstly showcasing his lithophone he has kindly created for harmonicon as well a short drone set inspired by the geology of the calder valley on sunday morning 🌀

✏️✏️✏️ We’re excited to announce our Drawing Workshop and Exhibition of finely drawn Hagstones at @Harmonicon_ ‘The Hagstone’ exhibition by Sophie Châtellier, a collection of fine hand drawings of Hagstones, and free, drop-in, Hagstone drawing workshop, at ‘The Workshop’ (formerly Videotell). Hagstones are also known as serpents eggs as they were thought to be the hardened saliva of snakes. The natural hole in the stone is seen as a way to see through, or pierce the veil between the physical world and the spirit world, used for warding off evil spirits and negative energy for centuries. Some fine examples of hagstone drawings, real life examples. An open invitation to draw some new ones with resident artists by Leena Kisonen & Myriam Waldbillig amidst a collection of fine line pen drawings by Sophie Châtellier of Hagstones. All are welcome, no age limitation, no drawing skills required, free entry as part of the Harmonicon festival. Drawing material will be provided, but also welcome to bring your own tools. ✏️✏️✏️ Sunday 12th October, 10am to 2pm at ‘The Workshop’, (formerly Videotel) on Water Street, Todmorden, OL14 5AB.

It’s not to long into the near distant future…. perhaps its already happened…. we see @harmonicon_ as a weekend of hope, exploration & interactivity, through, discussion, dialogue, playfulness and harmony. We pose the question, why do these energetic forces bring us together in these times? Excitingly, the gathering will culminate with The Transcendence Orchestra, made up of techno pioneer @tony_surgeon with @d_a_n_b_e_a_n together with @clavendr & Paddy Shine from @ingnodwetrust creating a unique finale. Tony Child transformed the techno and experimental scene in the early 90’s in Birmingham creating a community of listeners. His ‘industrial’ trademark sound has gone on to be referenced as arguably the ‘finest techno DJ in the world’, FACT magazine. For over 20 years Paddy Shine has been a whirlwind force of frenetic electric creativity, working within a hugely wide spectrum of sound, mostly with cult noise experimentalists GNOD, and with a multitude of different satellite projects. With a sound palette ranging from Noise, Ambient, Drone, Psychedelic rock and hypno-repetition, his prolific output has seen him dubbed by those close to him as a “Perpetual Motion Machine”, a relentless creative force. Following C Lavender’s discussion on ‘Deep Listening’ and performing ‘Rock-Piece’ she will then join for this collaboration. Having her expertise together with Dan Bean will see many wonderful weird things come and go. The full force of the Transcendence Orchestra will be pushed through @psion.systems / @auratekh ‘Tannoy’ PA system. We have had lots of questions about timings for @harmonicon_ so here we have it…the final line up for the weekend! A programme packed with stones, drones and roams… Some exciting new additions to the line up since we last posted, including the addition of film screenings in the mornings upstairs @goldenlion_todmorden including films by @jeremydeller @spaceshipmark and @stonesofkernow Also very excited to announce this will be @tony_surgeon first ever time in Tod! Welcoming Polypores 🍄‍🟫 Coming into the fold on the Saturday evening of @harmonicon_ is Prestons Polypores. @sjbuckers has previously released on ambient wizards, AHRKH’s @goldenratiofrequencies label and brings an inviting, highly detailed performance of polyrhythms and harmonic frequencies that contemplate and reflect on the interconnectivity of life… a deeper context of our exploration at @harmonicon_ A mercurial live performances range from highly textural, intricately woven modular synth tapestries, through to whirling psychedelic freak-outs with hypnotic polyrhythms and fuzzed-up drum machines. Stephen is a riveting performer in complete symbiosis with his instrument, each Polypores performance is a unique channelling of the weird energies that make up his fractal musical universe. We cannot wait!

Another exciting Harmonicon announcement… Our dear friend @ahrkh_gnod of Gnod, will be playing his frequency driven synth, gongs and drones up in the Unitarian Church on the Saturday. Excitingly he will also be selecting tunes at the official afters on the Saturday down at @nan_moors_bar_venue_todmorden , in Tod!✨ Alex Mccarte will be preparing some, ‘trance inducers, stress reducers, and sonic meditations’ for attendees from 9pm! 'Nans will be a great place to hang and commune’ We will also have a special appearance at Nans for a set by @the.stone.club Weekend and day tickets for the main event space up at the unitarian church are on sale now, ticket link in bio 🙂
