It’s been a long process from concept to reality. Memento Mori Cuervo II This piece began as a hand-sculpted crow skull. I collaborated with @thelefthandedpotter who added delicately made fungi and flowers. A life cycle, memory and decay intertwined. I chose to glaze it in soft hues that evoke the subtleness of nature, in contrast with this meditation on memento mori—a reminder that death is ever-present, yet from it, transformation and beauty still emerge. @atelierccl

Sun, shadows and clay, and of course the best company. Some new projects underway @atelierccl I’m waiting for glaze results to add color and depth to this new creation. #CeramicArt #StudioVibes #ClayLife #SculpturalCeramics #HandmadeHome #ArtStudioInspo #SunlitStudio #WabiSabiStyle #SlowCraft #ModernCeramics

2023 was a year …big ups, big downs. Just life’s rollercoaster doing its thing. I’m grateful for everyone and everything. And if I haven’t said it out loud to you personally, thank you. Here’s a peak into the first of many explorations. Thanks to the Canada Arts Council, the grant I was awarded has allowed me to work on a project I’ve held close to my heart for years. Also, go watch The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down. 😘 #handbuiltceramics #ceramicwork #ceramicsculpture #1000vases #ceramicsart #claysculpture #montrealartist #handbuiltpottery #oneofakindpieces #ceramicproject #faitauquebec #canadianceramics #latinaartist #ceramicsart #clayart #clayartist #ourdailyclay #largescalesculpture #coilceramics

It’s been 3 months, and I’m still crushed. Saying goodbye to my sweet prince has been a daily dance with grief… Time was always going to catch up, but despite that fact it has not been easy. The beauty of my relationship with Hambone, was that over the course of his life I learned so much about him, dogs and myself. He was a big lazy puppy when we moved into our home. From that time he was woven into our daily life, he was what made our home feel like home. Hambone was with me for all of my 30s. He was witness to my biggest professional successes and disasters, the lose of friends (moves, breakups and deaths). He saw new friendships bloom. He was there when I decided to take on a fulfilling new path in life. Hambone was always there. The last 3 years were challenging, but they were also the sweetest. Our old vet called him the happy Rottie — he was such a happy dog. After his wobblers diagnosis, in some ways he was even happier. Through his challenges, I learned that life happens in the now. That planning is a luxury and it doesn’t take much to be happy. For Hambone, living in the now meant: finding ā€˜street-food’, cuddling on the sofa, having his ear rubbed in the right way, greeting friends at the door and sitting out on the back patio under the dappled sunlight. With Hambone I learned to pay attention to details: the way dew collects on grass and then beaded on to his nose, like pearls. I learned to appreciate winter and long walks. I met my neighbours, their dogs and children. I learned to take in life’s little moments and savour them. The absence of my constant companion is most poignant around life’s details. The daily routines seem so different, the mental reflexes are slowly adjusting to a new rhythm. There’s comfort in knowing what’s expected and having that expectation met every time you come home and walk through the door. It was such a privilege to have his big, beautiful personality in our lives. Hamonish, Ham-sandwhich, Jamónador, Jamónicito, Hambo, Babba..... was my witness, my barometer and anchor. Laugintas is one of the newest iterations of my large-scale vessels. I was inspired by creating something that is hollow but invites you to take a look inside. If you look closely, you can see brighter, blue decorative element, emulating the blue colors of the lagoons that I grew seeing in Nicaragua. Though we call them lagoons, they are volcanic crater lakes, remnants of ancient volcanoes that are part of larger active volcanic chain. #reworkingtraditions #handbuiltceramics #ceramicwork #ceramicsculpture #1000vases #ceramicsart #claysculpture #montrealartist #handbuiltpottery #oneofakindpieces #ceramicproject #faitauquebec #canadianceramics #latinaartist #ceramicsart #clayart #clayartist #ourdailyclay #largescalesculpture

Out of the kiln, and newly home. My latest hand-built large vessel. I’m content with the results, which is rarely the case. But I think I found some harmony between the form and decorative elements. Thanks Kiln Gods and @shenice.ceramics for being supportive through all the phases this piece has been through. #handbuiltceramics #ceramicwork #ceramicsculpture #1000vases

Made back in 2019 at an @archie_bray workshop taught by by exceptionally talented @richard_w_james , this bust was shipped from Montana to what was going to be our semi-permanent home in Greenwich village. But much like everyone else, our plans changed in 2020. My brother, his partner and my friend moved us out, while I coordinated as best as I could from Montreal. We said goodbye to our NYC dream and put our stuff in storage. And once the Canadian border opened in 2021, my friend Alex offered to drive some of my boxes from the storage unit back to Montreal. šŸ’› All that to say, practice and process is a journey. And while I haven’t created a bust since, the facial expression sums up the above story pretty well don’t you think? #stagesofclay #clayart #claybust #ceramicsart #claysculpture #montrealartist #handbuiltceramics #handbuiltpottery #oneofakindpieces #ceramicproject #clayart #clayartist #potterysurprise #makersmovement #alwaysbetesting #ourdailyclay #handmadeart #artisticprocess #artandlife
