I decided to try my hand at sculpting a bird skull, drawing inspiration from the silhouette of a crow. The oversized eye sockets provided the perfect canvas for Wendy to weave in her signature flora.
So happy with how this symbiotic skull came to life. 🌿💀

I added some hint of gold lustre to this bad boy. I also experimented with some new glazing techniques for fun.
I’m not sure if I’ll continue with it.

Fox skulls in the wild.
When I started making ceramic objects, I never thought that I’d make skulls or large vessels. I registered for a class with the goal or making small plates. I wanted to replace a set my grandmother had given me when she died.
Instead, I discovered a world of possibilities. I could make anything I wanted I just needed to learn how. Fast forward to now and I’m still learning so much.

I’ve made a few new one-of-a-kind skulls. 2 smaller ones that echo a fox skull, and a bigger one that’s more of a lynx.
I let myself go with these. I experimented by adding color to the clay body or using glazing methods that were out of my comfort zone.

My take on a Lynx skull.
My glaze choice for this one-of-a-kind sculpture has been polarizing from the beginning.
To me, it gives it an unnatural look, almost alien. Either way this memento mori is meant to challenge you.
If it makes you uncomfortable, great. If you want to grab it and touch it, even better.
The aim with my bone and skulls series is to bring you back to present moment.
