So incredibly thankful for the chance to compose the score to my good friend @lexyniso ’s stunning New York Fashion Week debut, with a beautiful accompanying animation by @mary2chen . Titled “Once Upon a Thread,” this score documents @lexyniso ’s career as a three-act fairytale from her childhood through to adulthood. “Once Upon a Thread” marks my third collaboration with @lexyniso , and it’s been an honor to see her grow as a designer through each phase. None of the scores have been released on streaming yet, but over the next month I will release each score one by one. In some ways these three scores represent my own three-act story as a composer this past year :) I never would have imagined being part of something like this or writing something like this even a year ago. My relationship with music is one that has reflected my relationship with myself — something I used to run away from, but have come to embrace and love. Eternally grateful, and I hope you enjoy the future releases. Grateful for the chance to do the music for @aaronwenli 's film "悠活 (You Huo) - Slow Living" -- a reflection on how life is in some ways one big improvisation that is best lived in the moment no matter how fast or slow. This was a really fun project and I especially loved playing off of @danielyoung.1114 's amazing freestyle dancing! I'm especially thankful for the trust that @aaronwenli gave me in just being fully myself with the music. I often hold back some of my more intense playing, and it was impactful to be in an environment where I was encouraged to express a range of emotions :) Lastly, excited to share that this is debuting on the big screen at the Boston Dance Film Festival and Fuselage Dance Film Festival this Saturday! Deeply grateful for the opportunity to score the music for “Showtime” alongside the incredibly talented @yoohurd . “Showtime” follows a recent graduate struggling to balance her day job and her dreams after a simple ask from her mom spirals out of control the day of her first live performance. To reflect these ups and downs, the score revolves around jazz drums and piano. The director/writer @vivektor and I actually met as co-workers, and we connected quickly over the themes of this film with me drafting music even before the first script was done. I’m particularly thankful for the chance @vivektor took on me in this film, as composing jazz was new for me at the time. Massive thank you to @yoohurd who really brought the drums to life, to @itsraviray for mixing and mastering the music and sounds beautifully, to @ai.rhea.d for the wonderful sound design, and to @jaybirdrecording for being such a great recording space. Been an honor to see this film evolve from a conversation over boba to a film featured in multiple festivals, excited to see where everyone on this team goes next!! Meet @hao.composer , one of the incredible artists performing at From Sea to SEA: The NYC Southeast Asian Festival! Hao Le is a Vietnamese-American composer and pianist based in Brooklyn whose work explores personal growth, introspection, and slice-of-life moments through music. He has composed across film, fashion shows, dance, and theater, while also experimenting with electronic sound and building custom instruments that blend organic and synthetic experiences. Outside of composing, Hao is also the co-founder of the Vietnamese Creative Society, a nonprofit dedicated to building a sustainable platform for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian creatives. We’re so excited to have him share his work and artistry with the community at From Sea to SEA!
