Introducing the final act for next Friday's gig at McNeill's (22/5). It's reigning champions of the Talking About Themselves in the 3rd Person world championship..... Hank Tree Fresh from recording a new album with Andy Miller (Songs Ohia, Life Without Buildings, Mogwai), Hank Tree will play their first full-band gig in nearly a year, debuting some songs in the process. A Glasgow based project led by guitarist and songwriter Fergus MacDonald, featuring drummer Roy Shearer (ULTRAS, Inspector Tapehead), multi-instrumentalist Bart Owl (eagleowl, Broken Chanter), and singer-songwriter Meja Aheinen Vesterlund, Hank Tree seeks to balance fragility and harshness through atmospheric ballads, distortion-heavy instrumentals, fingerstyle guitar and field recordings. Hank Tree released its first EP via the Chilean label Uva Robot and the debut album, The Big North, on Olive Grove Records. Taking inspiration from artists like Low, Smog, the Velvet Underground and Robbie Basho, they have supported artists including King Creosote, Steve Gunn and Gwenifer Raymond. They/we are very much looking forward to celebrating the release of the new @uhhhcomber EP and getting to share a bill with Mr Talent, @l_o_u__p (who also designed the poster for the gig). We haven't played a full band gig in 10 whole months. It's time to put that right! Very much looking forward to joining @uhhhcomber for their EP launch on Friday the 22nd of May at McNeill's. It'll be a treat to be on a bill with @l_o_u__p too having listened to his Understand EP pretty much non-stop since it came out in 2024. A fine exponent of the art of writing about oneself in the 3rd person.... *Hank Tree* (solo) Hank Tree is a Glasgow based project led by guitarist and songwriter Fergus MacDonald, which seeks to balance fragility and harshness through atmospheric ballads, distortion-heavy instrumentals and pieces featuring fast picked classical guitar and field recordings. Hank Tree released its first EP via the Chilean label Uva Robot and the debut album, The Big North, on Olive Grove Records in 2022. Live performances either involve MacDonald playing solo, armed with a classical guitar and an array of pedals, or as a full band line-up featuring Roy Shearer, Bart Owl, and singer-songwriter Meja Aheinen Vesterlund. Taking inspiration from artists like Low, Smog, the Velvet Underground and Robbie Basho, Hank Tree has supported artists including King Creosote, Steve Gunn and Gwenifer Raymond. It was a pleasure to be in attendance for the UK premiere of Felipe Bustos Sierra's, new documentary, Everybody To Kenmure Street, last night. Hats off to him for working so tirelessly for over 4 years in putting this great film together. We had the good fortune of working with Felipe for our Sweet Saltpeter video in 2023 and found him to be a thoroughly good egg. Wishing the best of luck to him and his team with this important film!
