This time last year, I scoffed at the idea of running a 5k, and today I picked up my bib to run my first half-marathon; to be honest, I wasn’t expecting it to hit me the way that it did. Walking into the expo, there was a wall of photos of former St. Jude patients holding pictures of themselves from when they were in treatment… little snapshots of strength, survival, and time. And it just made me wonder about an old friend of mine…
If Ali were here, what would her life look like?! What would she be doing, who would she have become?! She changed my world, and so many others, in the short time she was earth-side. No amount of time can fade that sort of impact!!
Before she passed April 2005 from neuroblastoma, she left us with this -
“Don’t let your nightmares crowd your dreams.”
So Saturday morning, that mantra will be in every mile, and every step. This one is for her. For us. For her family, the most wonderful people. For the two little girls at the beach.
