At Salute, yesterday, we played Lion Rampant: Viking Blood Feud on the model that Oshiro Model Terrain is building for the Snorrastofa Cultural and Medieval Centre, in Iceland.
The model is based on local archaeological excavations of the place where the famous Icelandic sagas writer and politician Snorri Sturluson was murdered in 1241. The model is still a work in progress, but you can have a glimpse of how it will look like when finished.
The idea to create museum-quality playable dioramas was born with the Gradara project that we brought to Salute a couple of years ago. The Gradara model is now placed in a permanent installation within the Castle of Gradara (in Italy, near Rimini).
We will bring an updated version of the model, including the second board, together with Lion Rampant: Viking Blood Feud to Partizan in May! Stay tuned!

Did you come along to our Tuesday seminar with Dr. Hamish Cameron and now want to see how the theory works out in real life? Or do you just fancy coming along and playing some historical games?
Our last games night before the spring break is fast approaching, and we’d love to see you there!
As always, everyone is welcome but we ask that you please register for free using the link in our bio – if you’re not affiliated with The University of Edinburgh this will also ensure your name is on the guest list at reception so you can get into the library.
Have you signed up for the next instalment in our seminar series, happening this Tuesday at 5:30 pm?
We’re looking forward to welcoming Dr. Hamish Cameron (Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington) who will be discussing the forthcoming historical-horror tabletop role playing game Nefas and using it to illustrate the relationship such games can have with history and, specifically, with Ancient Rome. If you’d like to find out more about his talk, or register to attend for free, please visit the link in our bio.
As always, all are welcome although space is limited!
It's just under a fortnight until our next seminar of this semester and we're very excited to be hosting an online talk from Dr. Emily Friedman, @criticalprof , introducing Actual Play.
Actual Play — the recording and broadcasting of roleplaying games for audiences — has existed online for over two decades, and has been rising in mainstream attention for over a decade. But what draws people to watch, listen, and record AP? This talk, taken from the Overture of Dr. Friedman's current book project, The Actual History of Actual Play, provides an introductory glimpse into the power of the form for audiences and creators across the globe.
For more information, and to register for free, please visit the link in our bio!
Our next social games night is fast approaching!
Next week we will run a roleplaying session, a wargame session, and will also have some of our ever growing library of board games available for you to choose from.
As always, while the event is free to attend and open to everyone, we kindly request that you register via Eventbrite – the link can be found in the Linktree in our bio.
Registration will also ensure you are added to the guestlist, and this will allow you to access the Edinburgh University Library if you do not have a library card.
