The first time @brennanleemulligan invited me to Adventuring Academy I thought he was kidding. He had to ask again months later — and even then it felt not-quite-real.
Very glad to have some fun in the Dome with the wizardly talents & calming brain of @one_af_one & knowing @derekcdesign was capturing it all — and Quinns going first with aplomb, while @micaburton showed this ancient professor how to bump iPhones. (And thanks to @d20_cosplay for adding to my D20 bracelet collection — swipe to the last slide to see the nerdy parts of my wardrobe)
It’s gonna be a good season — starting Feb 20.
It’s a wild thing to move from writing and teaching about the history of women writers to spending my life as a tenured professor working to prevent the work of women like @marisha_ray from being forgotten — and it’s a nice cherry on top to get a little shine in return.
Definitely a lot of great work on Actual Play and @critical_role in the world — you can find a lot at Aub.ie/critrolebib (or submit some at aub.ie/submitcritrolebib
I’m not the first (nor was AcqInc), but chuffed at the shoutout from @brennanleemulligan all the same. My thanks to my lovely former student @ascottdukes for giving me the head’s up.
This is not an impressive photo compared to how much wicked joy @tenpenjenn gave us with her Descended from the Queen game DEAD AFTER DINNER — it’s the second of her games that my Game Tasters agreed they’d like to play again.
My first comic blurb — it’ll be a bit before I see it in person so I’m grateful to Chris Williams for sharing this snap. The first trade volume of DIE LOADED (ZERO SESSION) is now available at your local comics store, preorders available, out in retail next month.
The end of Book Jail is almost in sight — and as soon as I hand off this draft I’ll be heading to the UK for convention and conference presentations, along with some meeting with research subjects & colleagues, and some time being a potato.
(And yes, will be at @critical_role live show in Edinburgh, not Atlanta)
This weekend the Game Tasters were down to precisely four players, which meant we were able to play Caro Asercion’s clever LAST TRAIN TO BREMEN. You can see every single influence that came together to make this game sing — from Dread to “you might have be wondering how I got here” and a raft of things in between. Ours was a chaotic tale of literal fireworks, & it was a joy in the middle of final grading to see my sleep-deprived friends *literally* kick up their heels in glee.
@possumcreekgames
When @matthewmercervo came to Auburn, I got an email from the plucky manager of @wegl_au@raenyday.psd asking if there was time for an interview. There wasn’t, but we let her into the reception after, & I said “if you’re serious, there’s a whole semester of people in games who are coming, and you can talk to as many as you want.”
Rae’s show TYPE SPEAKS interviewed Meguey Baker @tinybrownowl and Quintin “Quinns” Smith each twice, as well as James D’Amato @damato.james and Dillin Apelyan @superdillin — and wrote up all of our events for WEGL. I’m so grateful for what she’s done to help make the first year of Playful Media events real lighthouses, bringing folks together.
And in turn I’m delighted that she invited me to see her final @au_sigd project, an ARG called THE OVERNIGHT RADIO HOUR which is broadcasting on WEGL & is currently up in full on Spotify. She’s off to grad school, and I am excited to see where her many talents take her.
Playtested Jason’s experiment in minimal viable Desperation: 1 mountain, 3 climbers, and a tale of 3 acts with less than 9 cards. 15 minutes of gruesome survival (or, you know, not)
