AHF via its Heathy Housing Foundation (HHF) has just broken ground on its first new construction of affordable housing. (AHF has for years pursued various projects to adapt existing structures for use as affordable housing.) AHF Founder & President, Michael Weinstein personally made powerful remarks at the 1/23/26 groundbreaking of Little River Plaza, a beautifully designed 250-unit development in Miami. He was joined by both Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins and Glavovic Studio Founder and Design Director, Margi Nothard, who designed the project. Kudos to Weinstein and AHF/HHF for both paying for and developing directly this important project. Robert A.M. Stern captured in a portrait by Richard Schulman (@rschulmanphotography ). Stern passed away on Thanksgiving Day at 86. He was one of the greatest proponents of architecture, preservation and the history of New York, whose career spanned built works, academe, television and print media. With a sharp wit and deep knowledge, Stern’s bright presence will be very much missed in Gotham and beyond.

Thanks to a lovely invitation from the elegant Chevy Chase Club, I had the opportunity both to deliver a lecture to their sophisticated membership and also lead a private tour of the magnificent and monumental Kreeger Museum in Washington, DC earlier this month. I have very strong affection for the Kreeger, where I curated an exhibition that was on view in 2008. It is always very special to return to that beautiful property, which was designed by Philip Johnson and built in 1967 as a private home. The project opened just a few years after Johnson‘s work at New York’s Lincoln Center and there are some similarities between the two. The permanent collection features works by Picasso and Monet and the exhibition program has a strong commitment to the work of artists based in DC. Many thanks to the leadership of the Architecture and Design Film Festival @adfilmfest for giving The Harvard Five @theharvardfive its premiere in New York on October 15. Kyle Bergman, ADFF Founder and his colleague Sunena Maju are pictured here at the Angelika East Village, which hosted this year’s edition of the festival in NYC. I was delighted to moderate the vibrant discussion with director Devon Chivvis and architect/developer Bruce Redman Becker that followed the sold-out screening. Becker is responsible for saving an important work by Marcel Breuer and transforming it into the fabulous Hotel Marcel in New Haven. The New Canaan Playhouse is screening Devon Chivvis’s film, The Harvard Five, this weekend, July 18-20, at 8PM. This is a great opportunity to see it in the Connecticut town that is central to the film! This documentary examines the concentration of architectural creativity in Connecticut during the second half of the 20th century. The film premiered in Palm Springs earlier this year and now is available only in limited distribution.
