We’re delighted to announce that ‘Vida’, the 130701 debut album by Halvcirkel, is out now.
Halvcirkel’s art is characterised by a playing that positions “being human, over perfection”. Integral to their music is the way that their instruments weave and braid. It’s like a conversation, a discussion, in flux. The power in ‘Vida’ is the product of this synergy – their ability to agree to disagree. their differing viewpoints reflecting the world around us, and realising beauty when alighting on common ground.
The recordings document the three friends painting audio pictures and memories of Nordic landscapes, the nature of Iceland, Sweden, and their native Denmark. They explore techniques such as col lengo and pizzicato, and in the process, these creations call on and reference giants of modern classical and post-classical music: Brian Eno, Craig Leon, Carl Nielsen, Arvo Part, and Caroline Shaw. In addition, their aural aesthetic - where each instrument is equal - pays utmost respect to their mentor, the pioneering minimalist, Terry Riley. The results are highly personal and unique.

Halvcirkel er en dansk strygertrio, grundlagt i København i 2015, bestående af bratschist Mika Persdotter, violinist Bettina Marie Ezaki og cellist Nicole Hogstrand.
Halvcirkels arbejde er lige så åbensindet, som deres kunstneriske filosofi. De har fortolket værker af komponister som Dmitri Sjostakovitj og Philip Glass, samarbejdet med kunstnere på tværs af musikalske discipliner, herunder Henrik Lindstrand, Signe Lykke og Hania Rani, samt taget imod særlige bestillingsopgaver, såsom deres samarbejde med Statens Museum for Kunst i 2023.
I foråret 2025 var de på releaseturné i Japan, med deres seneste udgivelse SPIRIT, som er skrevet i samarbejde med deres mangeårige samarbejdspartner, komponist og multiinstrumentalist Anders Lauge Meldgaard. Halvcirkels musik afspejler en nutidig tilgang til klassisk musik, hvor tradition balanceres med det eksperimenterende og hvor lytteren inviteres ind i en verden af rige teksturer og kunstnerisk nysgerrighed.

First our dear friend from Japan @monkbeat will warm up the room.
Then Halvcirkel will play a solo set, where we present some of the new music we have been working on the last half year.
Last we will play together with @anders_lauge_meldgaard music from our latest album Spirit.

Despite the turbulent state of the world, we hope the new year has begun well for you. We spent the final days of 2025 recording the first pieces of our next album, and we’re now happy to be back—continuing to create, explore, and shape the music together.
Soon, we’ll be hitting the road with Girls in Airports, performing our new album Imaginal live for the first time. Thank you for listening and for being part of the journey.

Imaginal is out! The album we made in collaboration with Girls in airports! We really did put a collective creative force of ideas and ears to make this music together. It’s been a long journey entering each other’s musical world. The songs are mainly made out of sketches from Girls that we later arranged together. But you can also hear a new version of Nidingen on the album (released last year on our album Vida) 🎻
We are so happy that Girls poked us and asked us to go head in first in a process full of unknows. It’s wild how much you learn about creation, composition, sound making and collective learning when you join forces with another band.
