I thought I'd show my face and do an update! For those who don't know me, I'm Haley and like my username suggests, I will read almost anything. I'm 30 years old, live in BC Canada, and teach 7th grade. I went to school for English Lit but my favourite subjects to teach are actually Art and Science. I am an INFJ, an October Libra, and an eldest sister. If you need me, I'm probably hanging out with my husband and dog, reading a book with a baseball game playing in the background while eating a sweet treat.
So happy you're here! ๐ฉท๐ฉท๐ฉท

Things I suck at on bookstagram . . . and I will not be apologizing for โ๏ธ๐
I started bookstagram to have a safe space to yap about my favourite books during a time when I was dealing with a lot of health issues. I am inspired daily by creativity I see on this app and have added an unreadable amount of books to my TBR. There are so many amazing people I have connected with! That being said....I suck at understanding the algorithm and keeping up with all the things. So welcome to my little corner of booksta where I am just doing my thing ๐ค so glad that you're here!
โ๏ธWhat is something you love about booksta?
โ๏ธ Give a shout out to a bookstagrammer who inspires you!

๐ค ๐ฉ๐๐๐ ๐ช๐๐๐ ๐บ๐ ๐ญ๐๐ ๐ค Three months into our teacher-dominated book club, ๐ช๐๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐๐๐, and we are going strong. You can tell we are all teachers when we get this excited about stickers, duotangs, and Canva posters ๐
Recently, we read ๐ป๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐น๐๐๐ and I really enjoyed it! We were pretty split, and I totally understand why it's not for everyone. Body horror, cannibalism, and disturbing imagery, this book mixes themes of childhood innocence, sacrifice, morality, and family in a haunting way. I listened to the audio and it took a while to get used to, but I eventually couldn't stop listening! A short read I would recommend if you like horror and heavy themes.
Our first two reads were Not Quite Dead Yet and My Husband's Wife. No real losers for me yet! Our next read is Mile High by Liz Tomforde and I am excited for a change of pace.
โ๏ธDo you listen to audio? If so, what speed? Any fave narrators?

Thank you @simonschusterca for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
A young video game developer, a drug smuggling sailor, a climate scientist, an AI robot, and a fictional space captain - five stories connect over five centuries in unexpected ways as each searches for purpose.
Things I appreciated about it:
โ๏ธ Complex and thought-provoking themes
โ๏ธ A focus on human connection and the power of story
โ๏ธ Original storytelling that made each POV unique
โ๏ธ Video game interludes
โ๏ธ That it left room for questions and wondering
Things I didn't love about it:
โ๏ธ POVs were hard for me to shift between as they were all written so differently
โ๏ธ Most characters were under-developed
โ๏ธ The slow start made me want to DNF (but I'm glad I stuck it out)
โ๏ธ It could've been longer. I really felt like it was trying to do a lot in under 300 pages and could've been so much more developed
This one was a challenging but unique read. I didn't LOVE it but I'll be thinking about it for a while!

โฃ๏ธโฆ๏ธ Wyatt by Jessica Peterson โฅ๏ธโ ๏ธ
Soooo I originally bought this series because my husband's name is Wyatt ๐ฉต It felt like I was meant to read it. Also...steamy cowboy romance series with five brothers? Say less.
While Cash was tall, grumpy, and classic cowboy, Wyatt is more of the bad boy type - scruffy beard, tattoos, poker skills, and playboy tendencies included. I can tell you that MY Wyatt didn't love hearing me gush about these imaginary ranchers ๐ he'd be like "How's your book?" And I would be like "He's in CHAPS!!!" "Look what they're doing with lassos!!!" ๐
I liked this one a lot! Honestly thought Cash Rivers was the pinnacle and didn't know how it would get better, but it does. Wyatt's story was a bit less cheesy than Cash's, which I appreciated. I also LOVE a blonde MMC and mutual pining. The nickname thing grated on my a bit by the end but loved the romance, so overall enjoyed.

๐บ๏ธ March & April Ranking ๐บ๏ธ because we're a tad behind over here ๐
I read 15 books in the last 2 months, which is just over my goal of 6 per month. I am so happy that I read across genres and also had no DNFs or books I really didn't like. It was fun to do this ranking, but even the ones at the bottom of the pyramid were enjoyable in their own way! My number one is CONSUMING my thoughts and I am currently devouring the sequel.
How has your reading been? Any standouts? Any flops? Any series you're loving? Any books you're looking forward to?
Happy Friday & happy May! โค๏ธ

I really enjoyed the world of Thistlemarsh! The beginning set a magical tone, and I loved how WWI England was reimagined after Fae had mysteriously left the human realm. The characters were likeable for the most part but I also felt some of the minor characters weren't described enough? I got snippets of them and liked them, but was left wanting to know more. Thornwood and Mouse's banter was enjoyable, and I liked the yearning between them, but again, I wish there was more!! The pacing felt off to me a bit in the story. From about 75% in, things progressed in such a rapid way that transitions were not smooth and I was left rereading pages wondering if I was missing something. I get that Mouse was under an enchantment and was confused / delirious, but I feel like as a reader some stuff should've been more clearly explained. Overall, I really liked the coziness, the setting, and the vibes!

Did Instagram influence me to buy this whole series before I even read one book? Yes, yes it did.
Jumping into the Lucky River Ranch now and I am enjoying it so far. I'm halfway in and oh my gosh, Cash Rivers is ๐ฅต๐ฅต I had Ryder on pre-order but my shipment was delayed because it was sold out? Maybe I will have it by the time I finish these ones ๐
