Super excited to finally announce a wee bartender takeover I'm doing over @handlebar_to with support from my good pal @kio_the_thief organized by the incomparable @laff.ca (on one of her last handlebar shifts)!
I'm bringing back a handful of greatest hits from my tenure as Bar Manager at Le Swan. Subtle riffs on classics, all with a tropical twist (hello lychee martini 👀 hello thai basil shandy 👀)
One of my personal pleasures when creating list drinks for the ol bistro-diner was sneaking in a bit of my cultural flavour heritage (what do the French and the Americans have in common? Colonizing Vietnam! Ba dum tss), so there's a small running theme throughout
All of these cocktails are near and dear to my heart and full of love (and we LOVE LOVE!).
This is my first (and likely last) pop-up so come by for a sip and a swig, and a shuck and a chuckle! It is sure to be a wholesomely debaucherous night

{it's been a few months since our permanent closure, and life is a bit colder on the other side. i feverishly wrote these words the week we moved out, but it's taken me until now to process them 🤍}

i've loved you these long, life-changing 3 years. i've learned and grown so much. i lived here part-time; tattooed my best friends; my band was conceived on this stage; i've been the most vulnerable i've ever been; and i've made some of my greatest friends for life. it was my port in the night, my refuge
i'll always remember the musty warm wood smell, the beamed ceilings; what the light looked like on the wall at sunset; winter's cold whisper by the window, the sound of the radiator named reznor; that one beautiful hanging light and the still life bouquet kima stringed up; what the studio looked like in the dark, and how the moon peered in through the rooftop window; the trepidatious yet curious yet joyful energy in the room at show and tell; the taste of the only case of wine i'll have ever bought (sans chichi ni tralala); the feeling of being young and confused and hopeful but with such conviction, adults–but like not quite; and that one good picture of a brook in the stairwell (that i will forever regret not stealing).
i know this to have been a seminal crossroads.. and i'll remember the spirit and philosophy we fostered. i'll carry a lil torch for her in my heart; and i'm sure it'll forever influence my own work, that of my peers, and hopefully some of our lovely visitors. 𝓁ℴ𝓋ℯ 𝒸𝒶𝓃 𝒷ℯ 𝒶 𝓅𝓁𝒶𝒸ℯ
thank you to everyone who attended life drawing, who shared that charged, vulnerable (often sleepy) creative space. i'll miss those dreamy sundays. and thank you of course to all of our fantastic models, many of whomst had never modelled before, all of whomst were so wonderful to draw and work and share with. i loved listening to everyones music (or crime podcasts). it was such an honour to host y'all

it feels like i've been in the moving process (and completely overwhelmed) for months now, and seeing all of my crap documented (12 years of flying the coop and two studios worth!) certainly contextualizes why...
but! moving's all done, patio season is over, i'm rounding the curve on functionality+routine, and as we enter the mars rx shadow period i welcome a (hopefully) slower season of life

(update: fam’s all good. mum’s cast came off like a month ago, she’s been cleared to try the stairs)
late by a couple days (as my insurance broker and landlord have uh repeatedly reminded me) but happy 2 year anniversary to @wyrmwell_studios
i’m so fond and proud of this sweet little space i founded with some of my nearest and dearest friends. it feels like a distant dream but; one week we were having an inspiring conversation over our usual coffee at 135, the next we were signing the lease on the first thing i found on craigslist.
@shevjlewis@kimalenaghan i love you both so much and am so grateful to have shared so much space, art, vulnerability and convos in our beautiful little kingdom
here’s to another year left on the lease🥂 and to whatever the future holds 🕯️
